Well, i guess i need to get this off my chest and tell someone. Sure, posting on the internet wont do much, but its a start...

Well, obviously to begin with, I have Aspergers. Finding this out halfway through my senior year in high school didn't exactly help me much. Since I can't 'read' people as others can, my love life is understandably non-existant.

So, now I find out that theres a possibility Im a carrier for Nerurofibromatosis. So I dont have to type it out every time, I'm just going to call it NFM for now. So, since I'm a carrier, if by some miracle I find someone I want to spend the rest of my life with, I run the risk of giving my kids NFM, which is basically tiny tumors forming on nerves. According to the wiki article, I could give my kids
* headaches
* balance problems, and Vertigo
* facial weakness/paralysis
* \may also develop other brain tumors, as well as spinal tumors
* Deafness and Tinnitus

And if it wasnt enough that I could be a carrier (I have borderline symptoms), the test for it costs a few thousand dollars.

So, it almost looks like im screwed every way I turn. Pretty depressing really :( :(

I keep saying I have to get in and get a diagnosis for Asperger's, because I am proof in one way that a person can have relationships (however dysfunctional they end up, LOL) and be an Aspie. Look around at the rest of the folks here. There are some with boyfriends, girlfriends, married, kids, etc.

Zip over to Medline Plus to do a search for this Neurofibromatosis. You will find TONS of info on it.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus

You will also find links to such sites as this one, that shows current studies recruiting patients:
http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct/gui/action ... iting=true

I don't know if that link is going to work or not.

Read up about that condition. As much information as you find via that Medline Plus site. You may come across information that you didn't know. And that points to you NOT having this problem.

There's all sorts of stuff that could go wrong genetically. With any of us. Depending on who we have kids with. If all the things that could go wrong, DID go wrong, I rather think most of us would be very deformed, sickly, and insane. Seriously.

What does it show in the genetic chart on your Wiki link? Now, read what it says below:
NF-1 and NF-2 may be inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion, as well as through random mutation.

RANDOM MUTATION

So even if neither parent has it, it could still occur.

And with that chart, if one parent has it, the child may not have it.

As far as the costs of tests, I don't know offhand what tests they'd do, I haven't read that much of your link. I did have an MRI on my back and paid nothing, as I am on Medicare and MediCal. You might look into seeing if you have coverage for any tests, via your local county hospital. Based on income, is usually how they determine the fees.

I don't know anything about your personal income or your own location, so you'd have to look into that yourself. But perhaps the links to read first on this condition will help to show you that maybe you don't have it at all. :)

To expand on the matter- Genetics is a funny thing and unless you have the proper testing don't jump to any conclusions. The problem that I have is that I am a hypocondriac. so I get myself all worked up over nothing.
Let us know any further details because maybe there is someone else on this site with thew same problem.

Timbo, you could consider adopting - no risk of transmitting this genetic condition. It speaks well of you, that you have this sense of moral responsability towards any future children.

True, but I'm pretty sure there are different types and severities of AS. The only other aspie I've ever met in person is happily married. In my case, my chances of that are slightly lower tha of winning the jackpot (and no, I don't buy tickets).
