Not like mental disorder depression which I have struggled with, but just the feeling sad type. Anyways just seems like there is so much crap...I may come back and explain more later, but just wanted to put it out there. A couple things are Global warming is real, I am sick of certain politicians and their supporters parading around that it doesn't exist or even that its a conspiracy, that is not a valid political position. I mean why would the vast majority of scientists make something like this up? So yeah that bothers me...Also plastic! I think it should be banned honestly. So there is the environmental concerns...but also just so much toxicity, conflict and such going on. I just haven't seen america getting much 'greater' since Trump was elected...if anything I see lots more homeless people everywhere.

But yeah things just don't seem to be well in the world...and it really makes me want to ignore it and focus on other things instead, and only other things. But what good would that do? It would just be an exercise in running away mentally from reality.

It isn't just the "politicians and their supporters" who believe there is nothing to global warming though. That's my first point, the second being that your claim that "the vast majority of scientists" believe in it and wouldn't make something like this up, is utterly irrelevant to the actual debate regarding whether or not it is real. It is also extremely naive to believe that simply because "the vast majority of scientists" believe something to be true, then it must be true.

Don't feel bad about global warming (a.k.a. "climate change"). It's nonsense, the evidence does not support the notion.

I think the various changes in the world are very worrying, and this is the most concerning time for people and the planet that I have seen at any stage in my life to date - all 70 years of it so far. We thought we had left the cold war and its dangers far behind after the puffing and bluffing and threats of the 1950s and 60s. Everyone knew that "MAD" stood for mutually assured destruction. It's terribly sad that here we are again, and the two antagonists are alike in a number of worrying ways. I understand and share your concern Sweetleaf. Climate change and environmental pollution are severe threats to New Zealand's future economic well being and way of life.

I believe people all around the world are feeling similar sentiments. A lot of people felt a sence of buoyancy after WW2, as in 'from now things will only get better'. That feeling is gone. I think it's right to be concerned, but I also think the way to deal with it is to prepare for difficult times and do your bit about voting, learning about political systems and environmental questions.

Honestly, just growing some bee friendly flowers is a step in the right direction. If a lot of people do that, we may stand a chance. It's amazing how actually doing something makes you feel better and gives you practical skills that you can build on.

I'm working on learning how to grow my own food. A food shortage could become a problem in the future. I'm phasing out plastic bags. I'm voting.

Try reading Low-Tech Magazine, it's interesting.

A while ago, I accepted emotionally that the future will be rough. I think autistics are often good at dealing with a crisis.
I figured, if my ancestors could live on this northern rock, I can too. I am made of the same stuff as them, it's mainly a matter of learning how to do things and being tough.

I know what you mean. I find doing all I can on a personal level makes it easier to ignore the ignorant people.

Have you heard of no poo? I wash my hair using cider vinegar, no shampoo. If you check a shampoo label it contains dozens of ingredients, most made in factories, and sourced from genetically modified farms. All the ingredients have to be shipped or flown or taken by rail or road. Many many miles of carbon emissions just so you hair smells a certain way.

All of which is causing a lot of environmental damage. It has been proven that the shampoo we rinse down our drain in the bath kills wildlife and pollutes rivers.

The rewarding thing is once you start living a green lifestyle and cutting out lots of unnecessary things people have you save a lot of money and you learn to be happy with more simple things.

There is an overwhelming consensus that man-made global warming (climate change) is real. The majority of scientists who study climate, majority being 93-100%, agree with a level of confidence which parallels their expertise, that man-made global warming is real.

What evidence or facts will alter your opinion?

I've already accepted that the world as we know it is screwed. I don't value humanity a huge amount to begin with, so I take solace in the fact that the biosphere as a whole has been nearly destroyed many times before but always bounced back, and it probably will again, with or without us. Not sure if that helps or not.

I used to read Adbusters magazine. (an activist magazine) It used to drive me nuts reading about how screwed up the world was. One day while looking at lightbulbs and thinking about how much electricity they produced and I just snapped. I had to stop reading those magazines because they were too dark and depressing. They found fault in every little thing.

I dont waste anything and I dont drive. I recycle. Thats about as much as I can do. I know the world is in danger from climate change. Since there isnt much I can do about it I stopped worrying about it. We're all going to die anyway.

Sometimes that running away is needed for the spirit and soul to rest and refresh. I pretty much don't follow national or international news at all any more, too draining and unsettling. Science and transportation news I selectively follow via the web.
Best thing I can offer is keep searching, keep testing, until the balance you can live with is found. And it may involve dive in for a while, then climb out to re-energize.
If a person is at all empathic it can be a huge burden.

Well I have been using natural/organic shampoo for quite some time as well as soap, and since I have dreads I have to use those kinds because all the crap in other shampoo will leave nasty residue. Though there are some natural ingredients that could leave unwanted build-up so still have to check for those, I imagine cider vinegar wouldn't leave much residue at all.

But yeah I have been working towards cutting out some less nessisary things...but I am not to the point I'd like to be, I know I still leave plastic waste I try and recycle when I can but its not always an option where I live.

Well vast majority of scientists saying a particular phenomena exists, does seem to make a pretty good case.

What evidence do you have that global warming/climate change does not exist? Also if not scientists who should one trust when it comes to the climate and environment? After all those are the people that study it....

Lets not go there. This is the Haven, not the climate change denial thread!

Today the sun is shining and it is one of those beautiful days that warms the heart.

I think the world is screwed up but as the late Terence Mckenna would say " nobody is in controll of whats going on. " No one is running the show. We are out of control. The question is, is this kind of society sustainable. It wont last. It cant. And we cant help the way things are. Not very much. So Im back to enjoying sunshiny days after realizing we cant help whats going on. Not very much.

According to Duane Thresher, Gavin Schmidt admitted he became a client scientist as he couldn't make it in his chosen field of mathematics. These people are now heavily funded by the bottomless pockets of governments. Yeah....what possible reason do they have to make things up?

But why would they all make the same thing up?

Because there's no money in the status quo.
