(yes, I changed to a new name and stopped using the old one forever. But I will still post my sad thoughts and vents, this time it will mostly be limited to The Haven)

Here's my anxious idea, I am having trouble with those who just think that "we're fine" now:
I'm concerned, because a few hours ago North Korea launched a missile that was their highest-yielding so far. I am feeling less confident that US or the west will win this battle. It's been going on for 20 years and we just kicked down further. I'm also concerned about something like an EMP attack on America's national grid and electronics like is described in the book above. Allegedly, North Korea can already do this as their only strength, since it's supposed to be relatively low-tech to do so.

I have another thought dilemma: I wasn't a suicidal person in the past and I wouldn't consider it, no matter how depressed or sad I got. But a situation like this is a whole other daemon. If all modern electronics and critical utilities died on the large scale, and only 1/10 of the population surviving only if lucky and very prepared, there would be no chance of my own survival. I think a world after that, I would feel too miserable to even try continuing to live. I would also be coupled with the hellish sorrow that I was too young and never made many friends or tried to improve my life.

I know that I talk about doomsday a lot and I have a lot of other anxious ideas rooted because of these subjects. I'm not literally in this mood 24 hours a day, but there isn't really a day anymore where I don't think about it for a few minutes, or even a significant chunk of time.

It's late and I want to get sleep. I also wish that if you are religious, you wouldn't tell me to pray to God or anything like this, I lost all hope in prayer, no matter how upset or agitated we get, only God can answer prayers in his own way. He is more like a cruel, uncaring creator. Even similar to a dictator or very corrupt politician.

Fair, taken.
But I feel like my fears or anxiety is beginning to take over my mind too much.

If North Korea magically turned into Equestria tomorrow, and Kim Jong Un turned into a friendship-is-magic pony, I have a feeling that you would still find things have anxiety about.

Get medication.

Talk with strangers online, and even talk therapy by itself wont do it. Go to a shrink. Be open to medication. You seem to be wired to have excessive anxiety. Or that's my opinion.

I don't understand the first part about ponies.

Anyway, I do have medications and I do see a counselor/psychologist. I just don't know what to say, I'm kind of cornered about it. I guess what she wants me to do is forget about it and accept that I can't control some things, but this is so different now.

And I didn't say that I was thinking of being suicidal now, but I said "if it happens, I might feel that way more".

Does anyone realize how scary an attack on a national grid and important infrastructure sounds?

I was just grasping for the most non threatening and the most goofy thing in pop culture that I could think of. So I latched onto that magic Pony cartoon show. You may not even know anything about that show. Which is fine, because I never heard of it either until young folks here talked about it a couple years ago. Not even sure what the show is actually called.

Glad that you're getting professional help.

If you are survivalist who loves to figure out off the grid survival, and living like the Amish then go for it. Think about it. But if you're like most of us you're gonna have to just live your life as if it is not gonna come crashing down . Just like all of us oldsters who grew up in the long decades of the cold war had to while the two superpowers stockpiled nukes by the thousands. You cant do anything about it so just work on your life.

What naturalplastic is saying is that even if the thing you're scared about goes away, it's likely that you would then find something else to worry about. I understand because what he's describing is how I am sometimes.

Your counselor/psychologist is right ... it would be really good if you could learn to accept that you can't control some things.

As a matter of fact yes, on three levels.

One, I've been a technical writer for many years.

Two, I used to follow a doomsday blog that described a scenario involving the grid going down, etc. The blog even talked about North Korea. I could go into vast amounts of detail, but it might be triggering.

Three, I have in fact done a bit of prepping based on the doomsday blog. And then it hit me one day. That yes, I had extra food, water, and supplies stocked up in my apartment. But ... what if an EMP attack or other disaster occurred while I was miles away, at work? Then I might have no way to get back to my apartment. So I decided that since there was nothing I could do about it, it didn't make sense to worry about it.

While the power grid is in danger, electronics not connected to it would most likely resists a EMP.

All this talk about missiles being launched worries me too. I hate Kim Jong Un. I wish somebody would launch a small missile right at him and blow him up. We don't need maniacs like that in this world.

It's a pressing concern for the whole planet, it's not a particularly irrational fear, the threat is real. If more people worried about it then maybe something would get done about it.

Ummm...... nice logic there. Your solution to getting rid of 1 maniac is for another one to pop up.

Someone should start a poll on whether WW3 will happen or if the world will end. Or that third option that MAD will act as a deterrent and prevent any kind of doomsday scenario, although we do have some insane people in positions of power, so.....

Interesting to know. I was wondering how cars might be affected, for one thing.
Thanks for the link!

I don't really know a lot about all this Korea business, but it sounds so threatening. The radiation scares me more because of the slow painful death you suffer. Why should half the world suffer a slow painful death just because Kim Jong Un is a bastard?
