I need to sing my feelings because no one much cares when I talk about them.

I am 30 have no close friends except on the internet and have no career or history of long term girlfriends.

I was so stupid as a young man. I wasted 7 years as an alcoholic. Years going on holidays that were a waste of money. Years eating candy and fries whenever I felt like it and developing a lazy brain as a result.

I hope its not too late for me. :(

Other family members are doing a lot more than me, and friends I used toknow too, but more importantly I want love and a life more rewarding than eating, going for walks, talks with support workers and sleeping.

I need to achieve something beautiful with this life.

I wanted to get girls so badly when I was in my 20's.

I saw lots of people playing guitar, getting girls.

Yet I just knew I couldn't learn the guitar!

Stick with your Art. Write manifestoes. Exhibit the Art.

Unless it turns out you have a hidden guitar talent----maybe you have!

There is hope. Keep exploring what you are passionate about. It took forever to find my calling. Even 5 years ago though, I was so out of shape I would have made a terrible fitness instructor. One huge advantage of being on the spectrum is that with health being my special interest, then I wouldn't have been able to last long in any other job but I can easily become one of the most in demand in my field where I live.

Maybe something like that is your path, maybe guitar, maybe both, maybe something else entirely. Some of the most awesome old people I've known anyway screwed up entirely when they were our age.

I was but at the moment I'm not. I am struggling getting in strumming right. I think I need to buy a DVD which won't be cheap, but not getting in strumming patterns makes everything else learned on the guitar pretty useless if you want to perform songs.

Thanks. It's an ongoing process. I doubt if it's complete by a long shot. What I see with you though that I think will be the biggest thing to make your life easier is to distance yourself from people not on your wavelength and connect with people who are. Which is best done by doing what feels good for you and not giving a s**t what others think. The ones who like what you're doing are your tribe.

Yeah I get what you mean. I need to not be around people as much who are against me and more around people who like the things I like.

Yup, don't bother with normal people. Everyone I consider a close friend has a really good ability to think for themselves, which most people just don't have.

This guy is one of the best guitar teachers on YouTube, I think.

There's no shortcut to "getting good soon", you just have to keep practicing =) The nice thing about strumming is that you don't even need a guitar to practice it. A pick might be nice, though.

When I started guitar, I just did down-picking with my thumb, so it took a while to get used to using a pick, especially all of the up-strumming. Now I find it kind of difficult to go back to just down-picking.

Yes, YouTube might help, there's a billion videos out there.

I played guitar and was told by a session player that I was good enough to turn professional but I hated playing in front of people so that was never going to happen  anyway, even though I was considered a good player I always sucked at strumming. I found it boring as hell which didn't help. I played finger picking style. I could play complex pieces, I could even play Chet Atkins song Yankee Doodle Dixie which is two songs simultaneously, but strumming just wasn't my thing  Maybe finger picking would suit you better. There is more than one way to play a guitar :D
This link is to some of the things I used to play. Not as well as Mr Mathiski does, but definitely passable versions.

and Mark Knopflers favourite style is finger picking too

Oh yes, definitely a great player. I was going to mention finger-style, but it slipped my mind.

As a bonus, I feel it would help a lot more than strumming with his goal of getting girls to notice him B)

There's a guy on YouTube named Troubleclef that I used to watch a lot, he does his own finger-style interpretations of old pop songs (lots of Beach Boys and Beatles). I try not to watch him for too long, because it always makes me want to just give up and quit playing
