I try to sound mature, and yet, I'm troubled why this may happen compared to most.

I have the same, my brain doesn't necessarily pick out the relevant bits that people are trying to share with me so I end up making an inappropriate or random response. I'm rarely able to sympathise or understand when people are asking for support and so I might start humming a pop song as I mull over all the wrong bits. When I do this its usually better to own it and say

"sorry my brain is full of holes isn't it? I'm like a goldfish!".

It's an emotional blindness also leaves me vulnerable so I don't see the point in being down on myself about it, when it happens I just ride it and stay with the innocence of my intentions.

I gave up trying to sound mature a couple of decades ago. I decided I would just let others deal with me as I am.

It never really bothered me much. It's just a few instances here and there where I've maybe cracked jokes that others my age wouldn't.. resulting in not making the best impressions with some people. Overall, though, I don't mind it. The more I think about it, the more I like it really. I can deal with the odd moment of embarrassing myself in exchange for how much better I related to younger people & kids. I party with young 20 somethings & am well liked by my God kids and nephews. I think I've just kind of naturally made the most of my emotional immaturity. Aim for that, it's more fun. :)

That's a great attitude!

When I make ASD related mistakes, and I do - oh, I do, I get frustrated with myself.. but then I try to remember to stop and forgive myself for mistakes made beyond my control in the moment. It's difficult sometimes, but I have to do it so I can move forward vs. get stuck dwelling on one f**k up or another and allow it to ruin more than just the moment it happened in.

Also a good attitude. I'm pretty uncensored and authentic around my friends, but, time & a place still come into play when it comes to work/school/public. Still gotta make an effort not to draw too much attention to yourself with socially inappropriate behaviour.
