Why. It’s my only purpose. I should have been dead by now. Shouldn’t lived past at most 22. Why does the government get to discriminate but they force everyone else not to discriminate?

I am an autistic retired Air Force Master Sergeant. The no Aspie thing started shortly after I retired. It is part of the new politically correct, less effective, military. Before the change, the focus was on mission effectiveness, and personal quirks were ignored, even more so when we had the draft.
Several war movies show off strange personalities for humor. Many military radiomen (like me) were considered strange, but loved by their units because they were obsessed with keeping the circuits up.

There was also a case where they recruited a serve autistic kid and his parents sued.

It just sucks my only use was to serve in and die in the military in some war.

Hey Sly,

I forgot to ask:

Did you go down today and deal with that car sale thing?

I don't think a severe autistic would make it through basic training. One third of my unit did not pass. Fortunately my meltdowns were seen as losing my temper, and reasonably isolating myself a little to calm down. Meltdowns later in my career were ignored as decompression from combat stress (also considered normal).

As for dying, you are much more valuable and much more fun to be around if you are alive. You seem to have a very good grasp of history. Patton said "The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his." Mal from Serenity said "Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back" only faster.

You must have me confused with someone else. I’m not valuable at all I’m just a horrible burden on everyone.

I should have been allowed to go over to Iraq and serve and die. Perhaps I’d been able to save life’s with my death. Now I’m forced to live a horrible useless unlovable life. If I’d been allowe to serve I’d died a real man in women’s eyes.

The government with its discrimination denied me my purpose and destiny

...I seem to recall that the U.S. military's policy at this time is that admitted Aspergers's was a keep-out for enlisting* but, if caught once you were inside you could still continue with your enlistment (Presumably presuming reasonable competence), it was not a ticket out of an enlistment in either a positive (getting out if you wanted out) or negative (getting mustered out if you didn''t want to/getting an OTH).sense.
Sly, is your Aspie-ness perhaps enough not on the record that you could possibly go to another county or state and join from there where you aren't well-known, just not mentioning it there ?
I recall this " severely autistic - but hunky/strong - kid played along by unethical Marine?? recriiter and got shipped off to camp before his parents found out " case being discussed here before, can anyone direct me to a full discussion of it?
*-A few years back I hung around the Military.com forum a bit, the question of Aspie enlistment was discussed, the forum guy who answered was pretty gung-holy defending/parrotting (Existing?) military policy of " It's a PDQ "...I guess, get shut out of enlisting/thrown out Pretty D__n ( 8O !) Quick - That an established military slang term? - BUUTT, it occurs to me...

there are few things more futile, than dying in battle. off the top of me head I can think of a dozen things that are less futile.

...I belive reecruiters are granted a lot of latitude to grant waivers for things that could keep you out, even in official policy. Do you think Sly's desire to get in could even be helped that way? ( Or, more cynically, picking out an area to enlist from that doesn't get as many enlistees so the recruiter has to try more hard? Go towards the end of the month?? quarter?? when it's coming up that the recruiter"s trying to meet his quota?)
Actually? even short of the really bad case I described above? I think recruiters might sometimes band the rules some beyond that, even if they're supposed to?

the entry level jobs for folks sans shingle, are gone, so the recruiters basically have their quotas filled by more or less desperate working class people who have no other options. sly's problem is bad timing, in this regard.

...I meant " not supposed to " above. I see your point, AB. By " area " in my suggestion Sly
I meant physical area, a region with low enlistment levels. Too lect-wing and anti-9military? Too right-wing and rich and " Let them do it "? Too many old folks/retired?

...And, there's whole American mythology/ paperback novel thing about recruiters fudging the rules, a " looks older " 1t-yr old farm boy and the recruiter swim rd a d says " you'll do " - or the whole "It's the Army or jail/juvie, son " story. I guess that's harder to do now/ less common but is it gone 100%? I doubt that :? . I think I've heard of in modern times kids in foster care on their 18th birthday being dumped in front of the recruiting office/told " go there " :( .
It's even publically admitted that standards will change - I remember thst late in GW Bush's time, it was written up that the Army only??, needing more bodies for Iraq, had strongly relaxed their standards for what criminal record things disqualified you for the Army, some pretty strong bids could get in. More recently, I recall reading that, Iraq somewhat calmed down, the Army was throwing many of those " bad boys " out early, perhaps OTH or anyway sans benefits...perhaps?? if they did something bad while in the Army but perhaps " Oh! I'm shocked! " noticing something they'd ignored before or even going 180 degrees on forgiving them for what they'd done before the Army when they had gotten them in under those auspices?? I'm not sure:? :(.
More lightly, I read a USA Today story recently saying " With booming economy, Army relaxes standards " or similar. It's also rather believed that you should put a considerable shaker of NaCl on anything military recruiters say to you, especially it's not in writing and even I suppose if it is. They' re used-car salesmen/snake-oil salesmen "/" send Jesus money " TV evangelists.

Disagree, living a long worthless burdening life and then dying is futile, giving your life to better your nation and save others is honorable
