Just as we all thought the snow and ice was behind us, we go and get another spell of freezing temperatures and snow, after having 2 weeks of lovely mild weather.
Yesterday temperatures got up to 14 degrees, maybe 15, and as soon as the wind changes it snows again. I didn't think that could be possible.

But I'm mostly upset about the beautiful flowers that were starting to grow before we had that freezing cold week. It seemed to have killed them off. Will they grow back again? I love to see the daffodils on the grass.

Spring is my favourite time of the year. But this stupid east wind keeps spoiling it. :(

That really sounds like spring to me alright... don't worry about it, the warmer times will come. They always do... or well, maybe not always; it'll probably change at some point, but for now, it'll be there, just like every year. Perhaps not as early or as warm, but it will.

I think those spring flowers are quite hardy. They tend to bounce back. I am looking forward to spring too, my favourite time of year. Such a positive time when everything grows again. For tonight, I am going to make a big roaring fire and stay warm and watch the snowflakes and hope we don't get snowed in like last time.

It's supposed to get milder later in the week, with rain. Temperatures in the upper single digits within a couple of das.

Here in Nova Scotia Canada it seems to just go from winter to summer. We dont have much of a spring.

I was going to make a joke about Narnia, but is been 30 years since I read The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. I can't remember how they ended the curse of winter.

I think we need to find a magic lion :nerdy:

I just hope the UK isn't caught in a cycle where the wind keeps blowing cold air from the east every 2 or 3 weeks. If this keeps happening, it will ruin our summer. While we won't get snow in the summer, we will still get cool air with low cloud and temperatures hovering around 15 in the day (if this easterly wind repeats). 15 is lovely during this time of the year but it is cold for summer. In the summer I like it to be over 25. I love the heat! :sunny:

What is this spring you talk of? Oregon seems stuck in winter too.

It’s minus 15 tonight where I am! We had thought spring was arriving early a few weeks back when some flocks of returning geese were seen, but I think they turned around and left again!

I don't know about UK but in Poland we have 2 sayings: "W marcu jak w garncu" ("In March is like in an old pot", meaning the weather can change as if someone tried to heat some cold soup and stir it every now and then in order for it to heat equally and not burn somewhere: it can get warm for a short while in one place and then the stir comes and everything is cold again) and "Kwiecień plecień bo przeplata trochę zimy trochę lata" ("April is a plaiter cause it plaits a little bit of winter and a little bit of summer").
So apparently it's the norm.

We have the same problem in Poland right now and while it does piss me off (I want spring already too! We had sunny 19 degrees a week ago and now we are back to -9!) remembering the sentences makes me think there is nothing to worry about - it must have happen many times before if we have such sayings. 3 most recent winters were warm and short so people sort of forgotten what a real winter looks like but the truth is current winter is a normal one - the previous 3 were the unusual ones.

I've seen Warsaw go down to below minus 30 Celsius. Much of Poland is so far inland that it has a "continental" climate. I believe even Gdansk, on the coast, can get down to minus 25 pretty easily.
