Didn't anybody miss me?

I've been ambulanced back and forth to hospital for a couple of weeks.
Finally an enraged doctor told me to control my diabetes or kick the bucket.
So I'm home.

Yes, I missed you! My son has hard to manage diabetes too. He had to be hospitalized twice this winter.

Oh I am sorry to hear about your son with diabetes. You've probably told me his age but tell me again? I see that you're in Canada with OHIP, is it? I've got the same with my SunCard- for everybody else, I'm talking medicare. They even pay the ambulance.

Am I too old or do you remember Bobby Clarke, former captain of the Philadelphia Flyers? He had childhood diabetes too but I was surprised to read the the worst of it, from his childhood point of view, was that it impinged on his "team player" identity. But diabetes made him the special kid who had to eat an orange during class. Every summer, he holds a golf open game where you can golf with hockey celebrities for diabetes.

I remember Bobby Clarke very well.

I liked him, even though he was with the "enemy" Philadelphia Flyers (the "Broad Street Bullies").

I was too sick to write! But not too sick to be lonely. It seems to me you were helping your mother - that was the weekend I spent in hospital. But I kept going back. They have this 24-hour rule, which to me seems like a one-meal rule - they have to send you home in a timely fashion, by mule if they have to. When they bring me from the hallway to a semi-private festooned with curtains, and stick me with the all-purpose needle, and bring me regular meals! How could I be happier.

I'm very worried about what to eat. Google is no help. How am I supposed to find and pay for and consume 1.78 grampulets of mangulumine, without leaving my bed? That's why I'm thinking of checking into a home - they can cook. But those places also have exercise classes <cringe>.

Bobby Clarke was/is likable but as a player he was so ferocious I couldn't forgive him. And I couldn't recognize him after he retired and his face healed.

Right now I feel sick. Just like always, these days. Doctors ask me and I have to say I don't know how I feel. I really don't. You know Ghostbusters I, at the end, there's a huge Mr. Marshmallow Man towering over the city? I feel that bloated. I don't know what to do for that. I've always had casual health - a nap or a pizza will cure anything. Not any more. I realize my relationship with food governed everything and I really don't know what to do. The usual diet - stop eating - is not permitted. I gotta *balance* food!

I was sloppy about that - I ran out of sticks and couldn't afford to buy more and didn't take diabetes seriously enough to care. But when they clocked me into the hospital the first time, my blood was 6.04 (Canadian) which is almost normal. So I don't know what they were mad at. But I'll mend my ways. Problem is, I really don't believe doctors.

But would your sister take you in in an emergency?

I can understand how you might be reluctant to go this route.

I don't know about pretty, but the gray is about right.

you could do an experiment- eliminate high-glycemic index foods entirely, and see what happens. I did that and several health indicators quickly improved. :idea:
