I want to be a fortune teller and am aware of how to do fortune telling techniques but I have no confidence around people. I could set up a business in a local office for rent but I fear it would fail because I can't bear talking to people, or even being around people for long, except a few who I trust and who interact in a way I understand.

I tried launching a fortune telling business where people could text or phone me but didn't get any interest. I think with fortune telling people want that classic office or shop booth to go into, the sense of a physical experience.

A few years ago I offered strangers in train stations, parks and bars readings and sometimes I entertained them but I only ever found the courage to do it after getting drunk on lots of alcohol. Even then I often wanted to run away.

I've seen my doctor 5 times in the last 2 months talking with her about anxiety, depression, a feeling I don't belong, but I'm still not convinced she understands. She believes my main focus needs to be on drinking less alcohol so has arranged an alcohol addiction counselling service I will be going to. But I only drink alcohol 3 days a week and the anxiety is a separate issue from that.

What do I do?

You're a good guy.

I don't believe in fortune telling; I don't get the feeling you will get a good amount of money doing this online. Lots of fortune telling is "in person."

It's actually a misdemeanor to do fortune telling in NYC. A misdemeanor is sort of a like a "summary offence" in the UK.

What made you get into fortune telling?

I actually knew someone who did this online. She got paid by how much work she did and how high her customer reviews were.

I’m not advocating this, by the way.

I think finding another line of work would be a great idea.

Don't you agree that fortune telling is based upon actual, physical contact with a person?

For one, the fortune teller has to look at the "lines" in a person's hands.

I appreciate the compliment!

I saw one myself a few years back and they gave me hope when I felt I had none, they also said I myself had it in me to do it so it got me curious about it.

From what I have read I think a few infamous cases of financial exploitation occured in New York so they had a crackdown on it.

I agree with you online wouldn't work. The key issue is my lack of social skills and confidence.

There are few things I'm good at and I think this is one of them. I've lost passion for art and writing.

Im comforted to know Im not the only one who doubts themselves.

Fortune telling sounds like such a cool hobby to be into. Definately dont start up a business if you doubt yourself. You could try practicing socializing to get used to being around people first.

My granny always used to tell me that if you smile around people, everyone will like you. Although that's a nice thought, it doesn't always work, but it helps. I've suffered from social anxiety since I was 9. It's been extremely difficult to cope with and I've lost all my friends. I used to walk away from anyone who tried to strike up a conversation with me, or I'd immediately tell them that I had somewhere to be and couldn't talk to them.

Nowadays it's starting to get slightly easier though. I can hold a conversation with almost anyone now, even though my brain is screaming at me to run away. As long as you smile, and act like you're relaxed, you'll be able to trick your mind into thinking that you're comfortable in the social situation. Gradually, as the conversation develops, it will get easier and easier to talk to the person.

I think in order for you to carry out your fortune telling business, you should practice talking for long periods of time with people you're close to and feel comfortable around. If it makes it easier, you can start off by having a 2 minute conversation, then developing to 10 minutes, and even 20 minutes. Once you've mastered this, you should be able to talk to more and more people for long amounts of time eventually, which will be great for your business :)

I hope this helps!! I'm not the best advice-giver but I try my best. I might get a reading from you someday as I'm very interested in fortune telling, astrology, etc haha :D
