Everybody smokes
In my town it seems like everybody smokes. Its like they dont care what happens to their health. I used to smoke. It was pretty stupid of me. Its hard enough to make friends but if the person smokes I dont want to be around them. Which pretty much means I dont want to be around anyone in my town because everybody smokes!
I actually don't mind second-hand smoke, in small doses, I think it smells kind of nice. If it's a good brand of tobacco, anyway.
Some people I know smoke like chimneys though, and they smell awful. And yeah, it is bad for your health, and even worse for your pocketbook. You figure, if someone smokes two packs a day, that's over $100 a week they're spending.
I couldn't date a girl who smokes. I kissed a smoker once, and I thought to myself "wow, it's true, it really is like licking an ash tray" ![]()

I don't like smokers that smoke in public. Many just smoke near a "Do not Smoke" sign and couldn't give too shizzles. I didn't sign up for passive inhalation.
Obviously I don't mind smokers that smoke in their own house, I don't hate the person. I just despise the behavior that is often related with such obnoxious mannerism.
I have asthma, and unfortunately cigarette smoke is a big trigger of mine, so I have to be careful and keep my distance from smokers otherwise there is a possibility that I could have an attack.
As a result I find it difficult not to hold some distaste against smokers. Especially when I go to somewhere known for its fresh air, say a beach, only to be surrounded by people smoking.
I wish smoking didn't exist, at the moment I have to alter my walking route at times just to avoid smoke and sometimes it is unavoidable so I just have to hope it isn't enough to cause an attack.
The best way I can describe an attack is that it feels like a giant snake is coiled around your rib cage and it is slowly trying to suffocate you by clinging tightly to your chest area.
I miss the days when I was able to sit outside on hot days at restaurants. Now, I usually can't do that anymore because of smoke.
During term time at University, my friend and I ran into the problem of having to sit at the back (because the people at the front smelt too much like smoke) and this was an issue because he couldn't see the board so he found it hard to keep up with the lesson (I could see the board though). So I suggested he move but he did not want to sit with people he didn't know because it would feel awkward.
I really hate having asthma, because the amount of planning I have to put in that others probably don't even think about is terribly annoying. Plus, sometimes it causes me to miss out on events.
One time I went to this place my mum got expensive tickets for, only to miss almost the entire event because I was on the floor trying my best to breathe and occasionally taking my inhaler whilst men with cigars smoked like old chimneys. I saw one guy smoke two cigars at once! Ugh.
Yeah, I agree with Lady Elaine, personally I dislike parents that smoke around their child. It makes me sad because their child will probably develop an addiction to nicotine later on due to all that second hand smoke...
My old physics teacher used to smoke, whenever she brought stuff in from home it would all smell heavily of cigarettes.

It was the opposite for me...I spent my life watching my dad struggling to quit, and was convinced that I would never touch the stuff.
I did try a puff or two a couple times when I was really drunk, but I did not enjoy the taste one bit

I have a support worker who smokes heavily and I'm lucky to not have asthma but I have got used to it. He is a lazy worker sometimes though. He forgets things I tell him a lot and gets angry if we go on a bus journey for a while because he's so desperate for another smoke.
I wish people could only get tobacco in patches for sale. That way they'd risk harm to no one but themselves.
Not wanting to have a boyfriend who smokes, I get that. Further down the line if you had kids, you wouldn't want those risks.
Ever since I've been with my boyfriend I've been exposed to smoke nearly everywhere I go. He's a smoker and he has been chain-smoking in his place for years, making everything smell of stale smoke. He's had lodgers live with him in the past, and apparently they were smokers too. And most of his family are smokers too and most of his friends.
I have a big family but most of us don't smoke, and the ones that do they smoke outside, never indoors. I really don't think anybody should smoke indoors, as it's not fair on non-smokers, children, animals and your house/possessions.
Light smokers that just have a couple of cigarettes a day (outdoors) don't annoy me so much, but heavier smokers do truly annoy me. I could go on forever ranting about smoking.

We live in a townhouse apartment & it's long & skinny with thin walls on both long sides that are connected to neighbors apartments. We're not supposed to smoke in the apartments but neighbors on both sides do & the smell comes into our place. Also one side had another person move in in addition to the people who were already there & the new person smokes pot which gets into our place as well. Me & my girlfriend both have allergies & she also has asthma which has been made worse by the smoke. She's using a stronger inhaler than she was cuz of it. We want to move partly cuz of this to a place where we don't have neighbors or only neighbors on a small side that has thick walls & insulation unlike our place.
I tried to get my 1st girlfriend to stop smoking & to stop smoking other stuff as well because she was wanting to change her life some & I cared about her. It was NEVER about me having to smell it cuz we were long distance. I wanted her to be & stay healthy cuz I loved her & worried about her. She eventually started slipping back into old habits & I had a hard time handling it & we had fights about it which contributed to our breakup but there were lots of other reasons too. I think I would better handle her or anyone smoking nowadays but I learned/grew/matured since then & I'm on anxiety & OCD medication so I don't worry as much. I still am very glad that my current girlfriend doesn't smoke thou I would of been open to dating a smoker if they only did it in moderation. i have aLOT more than my fair share of issues & faults & I couldn't really afford to be pickier than I needed to be when finding a girlfriend.

Your townhouse reminds of when motels had smoking and no smoking rooms. The no smoking rooms still smelled like smoke and the motel lobby smelled like smoke too. Areas that are supposed to be smoke free are never really smoke free because the smoke from the smoking areas always seems to infiltrate the smoke free areas.
