Do social workers/ case workers acutally do anything?
I became so depressed about loosing my job I ended up in the psych ward. I explained our situation to social workers in the hospital. After I got out I have reiterated these concerns to two different caseworkers in mental health. I have attempted to contact DHS via phone and in person and I seem to get ignored. I'm at my witts end.
My uncle for example is not buying food for his four cats and one dog again... Been three days now since they have been fed. He thinks that since we have 100 dollars (I'm trying my best to save it for gas money for this months appointments because my husband has an upcoming surgery) that well eventually feel bad for them again and we'll buy food for them eventually... And let me mention getting bitten by fleas and bedbugs everyday.
Not even my husband is a saint, I have to chronically be on his case about his diet, his insulin regimin, and I have to beg him to go to his doctors appointments... And every single time I take him somewhere he expects me to buy him something from the store or go out to eat... I really can't afford it and he acts like a little kid and gets mad if I don't...
The mental health caseworker thinks we would be better off if I had a suitable job (I do have a degree... I need to use it!), We lived somewhere on our own, then I had enough money to hire someone to care for my husband. I did see a job listed a couple days ago I feel like I'm qualified to do and surprisingly it's in part of the country I've been to before on one of my previous jobs, but it would require a massive relocation to another state and I have no clue how to pull that off...

If the company wants You for that job, they may be willing to pay your relocation costs. It's not all that uncommon. Might be worth a shot applying and then interviewing etc and if you get to the point of discussing terms or an offer, let them know you're willing to relocate but they'd have to be willing to pay for your relocation.
Never know, could work out.. no way to find out unless you apply! And if not, you're in no worse spot than you were.

I’ve found case workers to be very helpful. They let me know about different things I qualified for that I didn’t know about, helped me fill out applications for housing and jobs, made appointments in my behalf, and just made things a little less overwhelming.
She helped me get a service dog and do the necessary fundraising, so I can afford it.
It’s been great.

If you don’t find your assigned case worker helpful, you can always request to have another one.

Social workers can be extremely valuable. They know a lot of information that is not publicly available online. There are a lot of programs that can help you that do not publish all the entry information.
To get the most out of a social worker, though, you have to be able to work with them. You need to do your part, for instance, showing up for an appointment, staying on task when meeting with them rather than just ranting, and so on.
Not every worker is equally helpful. I have met some wonderful ones and some real dingbats. Do find another or change caseworkers if you think yours is not working for you.
Getting a foot in the door with an agency can be hard sometimes. You often have to go through their intake procedures and that can take time.
Sorry to hear about your uncle and yes, I do think you would do better without further contact with him. And your husband is also a trial for you. Good luck, Angnix.
