I made a post on a local public forum just for rants and raves about how rude the fast food employees in my town are also I pay good money for food and a service so I expect my food will be made properly and I won't have to worry about anything. Every single time I go to this one restaurant my burger looks like it has been thrown together and not one ingredient lines up on top of another the way it is supposed to be stacked. The buns, meat and sauce all go in four different directions and I have to reassemble what should have been done right to begin with by one of the employees. On top of that the employees have no manners, correction, they have bad manners. So several of the commentators were fast food employees and their managers. Every one of them had some lame excuse for why they don't do their jobs correctly. "Oh they are only between the ages of 17 and 25 and haven't learned how to control their tone of voice yet." "But we're teenagers and don't know any better. Besides this is just fast food and it isn't meant to be very good" To which I replied, "I expect elementary children to not know how to regulate their tone of voice but your a teenager." and "If you can't handle going to school and holding a job then you need to quit your job and concentrate on your studies until you graduate school." These whiners kept on and on about how I'm an a**&#le for bringing it up and trying to justify why they can't pay attention and do their jobs. I told them twice "I will not back down. Bad business is bad business. It's fast food, not brain surgery." Over 120 comments later I shut down the comments. Only four of the commentators dared to agree with me.
I'm sick and tired of all the normal people gripping about stuff that is their fault. #1 If they would just do their jobs correctly the first time they would not have to do them over again causing themselves twice as much work. #2 If they would do things right the first time they wouldn't drive customers away with their flat out stupidity. I refuse to have to take another screwed up order. I have lived in Idaho for almost 10 years and thought this was such a wonderful place to live until last night when I was slapped in the face with whiny, lazy.... there are no words for this type of person who expects to stand around socializing, playing at doing a job then expecting to get paid a living wage for crap. I wish I could shake the daylights out of every one of them.
Just a few minutes ago I saw a post by the top manager of one of the fast food restaurants. "Please be patient with all of us at ______ ____. I am retraining my managers and employees to do their jobs better in order to give our patrons a more pleasant experience." HAHAHA Well I guess firing off about bad employees does pay off. I imagine those who made stupid comments to my post were severely reprimanded or fired for the behaviour they showed.
I'm so tired of being dumped on because I'm different. At the same time I like to think my Aspergers makes me stubborn and stronger than some people. In this case enough is enough and I put my foot down.
I don't want to underestimate and invalidate your feelings I just want to show you the the other side of this. I had worked for 8 years behind the counter in sandwich bars, coffee shops and canteens.
It is a high pressure environment, most of the places expected me to serve 2 customers a minute, sometimes I was on the till, making sandwiches, trying to work ahead for the lunch service and washing up at the same time.
And then customers come with all kind of STUPID s**t, like they don't want the green bit in their tomato, they want a cappuccino without the froath, they are lactose intolerant so they want only the froath in their coffee, or in a self service restaurant they want me to put their food on their table, when we had 16 different types of cereal put out and obviously he wanted what we didn't have and made a huge fuss about how the place is going downhill...
When managers want you to record fridge temperatures every hour it doesn't matter that you already have a 20 people queue, when vegans come "change your gloves" - it doesn't matter that your palm is sweaty and it's going to take a long time to get that glove on.
When customers complain that they queue for long but they fail to realise that you are on your own, taking payments, making coffee/tea, plating up cakes and sandwiches. Then when you want a venti, skinny wet latte with oat milk and sugar-free cinnamon syrup then trust me, every server will HATE you. When you want 5 star service with your cheese sandwich, all of them will think you're an a***hole and go to a 5 star restaurant for that.
When you get this 8-10 hours a day, you will stop smiling and stop working well for that national minimum wage and you start hating people and you start thinking that everyone is an idiot.
Anyway as I said I understand where you're coming from and I'm NOT saying your complaint is not valid, people who work in catering and hospitality should provide good customer service, but the other side of this is the minimum wage, the stress, normal people would not go for this kind of job unless really in need, So basically there's always another side what customers don't see.

I see both sides this issue. The 3 jobs I had were the minimum wage type & dealing with customers; my 1st was a dishwasher(I did bus tables some) & my other two were custodial at retail stores while they were open. I HATED the stress of management on my back, some of my coworkers were usually goofing off so I had more responsibility to pick up their slack, & some of the customers really do have an attitude & want special treatment. That said, I always tried my best & tried to be polite to everyone including the coworkers who were slacking off. I agree with you Perkulator that fast-food workers should be polite. I totally understand people make mistakes(I've made plenty throughout my life) but in a workplace environment the workers should be polite & try to correct em like I've always done. Some of the fault lies with the people at the top who don't bother paying their employees enough to keep the 1s with good work ethics.
