Getting a phone plan

I got a free iphone and me and my service worker are going to look at phone plans. Social assistance will pay up to 35 $ a month. You can get phone plans a bit cheaper than that. I am overwhelmed by this because my rent is automatically payed by social assistance so its like I dont have to pay any bills. It would be nice if social assistance would automatically pay my phone bill as well, instead of putting extra money in my account so I have to pay it myself.

So Im afraid of paying this bill. What if I spend to much money and cant pay my bill? I eat a lot of fast food and thats quite costly. So I guess Ill have to be careful there.

Does anyone else struggle with paying bills?

If you can get Giffgaff in Canada where you are I recommend them. They have a system where you log in online to buy credit or what are called goody bags.

If you buy $10 credit on your account it means you can make text messages and phone calls up to the value of $10 but you can also at the same time buy a goody bag, which come in different prices, and each goodybay allows you a certain amount of texts, calls and online data usage for a month.

If you exceed the amount of the value of the goody bag, your phone automatically begins using any credit you've put on your account but if there is no credit or if you credit runs out the phone will simply stop allowing you to text or phone. So Giffgaff is useful if you're worried about getting into debt because by letting you set your own limits, it effectively takes away that risk.

It's also useful if you're worried about losing your phone or having it stolen, and the possibility of someone running up a big bill. With other networks that can happen but with Giffgaff it can't because once the allowance and credit have run out the phone cuts off.

As far as U.S. telephone plans, they are quite expensive ($35 to $75 monthly). I don't know about individuals outside the United States, but I learned after moving into a wonderful housing option, that food-bank food doesn't count against a beneficary's income limits. It is free. That has lowered my monthly bills between $100 and $200 a month.

For others, I would advise looking into that cost reduction.

If you use that phone only for text and phone calls, you can probably keep your expense below $35 a month. Ask the social assistance people that pay your rent, if they can also pay your phone bill since you have trouble paying bills.

Now an iPhone is kind of a waste if you only use it for text and phone calls, but data plans are the thing that is really expensive. You could look into a budget level data plan and then only use the phone for the most minimal data use, and use your computer (or laptop, notebook, tablet, wifi) for all data/Internet use.

I dont think I should back out of this because it would be good to have a way for people to reach me. I should just grow up and stop spending so much money.

Im a bit worried about going online with my phone because my mom said if the data is on it could cost me money. I would like someone to be there with me when it is turned off so it is done right. I thought I should get a flip phone but my service worker insisted I get a smart phone. Hopefully using it will be okay.

I have free wifi at my place so it shouldnt cost anything.

Depending on the company when your data runs out it’ll either charge you more or you won’t have data until next month(mine does this)

iPhone let’s you turn data off or limit which apps can use it. For example I don’t allow YouTube as video uses lot of data and I’ve accidentally used all mine once cause YouTube was left on. I use my data for gps, facebook and web browsing(wrongplanet)

Smart phones are the future for sure and will give you more benefits like gps if you get lost, actual keyboard for typing vs using the phone keypad(3 letters per number) system.

I stay at home most the time so I mostly use WiFi only. I use data when I go to work.
You can just use the phone on WiFi only

5s are nice phones and iOS 12 will speed it up some. I miss my 5s
I’d invest in a case for it which are cheap now. I use otter box defender cases as they give lots of protection.
5s also has fingerprint scanner so you won’t have to worry about others getting into your phone
Apple’s system is more simple then android so should be good for you(it’s why I like apple)

That will be provided by the company that you get service from, some charge for it though.

i have boost mobile and pay 35 dollars a month for my phone with unlimited minuted but limited 4g. but I have a reduced rate wifi plan at home so the reduced 4g is not a problem. i miss my phone my husband has it right now i'm on the tablet at the moment when I normally post on here from my phone lol
