Anyone else have family that simply likes to take things out of context to humiliate them or make them look bad? Any good response for to when people try to take thing out of context?

For instance, if my brother says, " I found vaporwave first, four years ago! So glad you know it now!" and I reply, "oh, I found it in my early teens from a friend(I'm older)." He will say, "it's not a competition, you don't need to make it one." His response upsets me because then it really means he just wanted me to agree with him and not give an honest answer. It's a trap. And it usually worked except the people that were present didn't fall for it this time. And what I mean is usually when family members say stuff like that, others sometimes join in and gain up on me.

My example today was simple, most times it's way worse how a family member will take things out of context, but my point is it's scary they do and it's scary no one listens to what I did and didn't say and that usually their reaction is dramatic; imagine someone yelling in your face, calling you dumb and gullible and naive.

I hope you are aware that the expression is "gang up on me".

Not "gain up". :)

Not sure what to tell you. Have the same situation with my sister. Her against everyone else (me and my parents before they died). One of us would say "such and such happened", and she would say "such and such couldn't have happened because ofsuch and such", and the one of us "what are talking about? I saw what I saw, and I saw such and such happen". Trying to figure out how to deal with sorta thing myself.

Your brother is definitely making it into a competition.

I solved the toxic family issue by moving far far away.
