What image(s) do/would you think of that you associate with peace? Here's mine:

It is late. There is cold rain, cold wind, and cold air. In the darkness and wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants, I walk along a sleeping street of a middle-class suburban neighborhood. ("Sleeping street" refers to how the people who live on this street are asleep.) There are no cars or other people moving along on this street; I am completely alone except for the people sleeping in the houses. With only street lamps to illuminate the street, I move forward at a steady rate. I observe the small things around myself from lawn decorations to home security system warning signs planted in the gardens. All of these are getting wet just like I am; the rain represents the cleansing of all troubles.

The night air is warm. You sit down on the balcony. The happy voices that went to and fro have ceased now. You close your eyes. All space opens.

First image that immediately sprang to mind was my most beloved cat (four years deceased this month) gently wiping tears from my eyes and cheeks with his paw, quite deliberately, then cuddling into me and purring me to sleep. When I recall this I once again feel the peace he gifted me at a terrible time.

One summer when I was perhaps 12 years old, sitting alone on a stone beach on an island off the coast of Maine, watching a brilliant red sunset over the ocean.
The closest I've ever come to kenshō.

sorry if this is offtop. but i really am in some sort of semibalance, when im metaphorically in the eye of a storm. im on attack, at war with the world, there is no surrender, no time to remember. at war with the world.
