I haven't been here because I've been busy but well maybe Friday, at least probably Monday we're going to our new apartment... My husband just got his SSI and part of his backpay and my relatives bothered us a bit for awhile but things settled down for now. We bought a "new" car.... Yeah an old one but it drives down the road and had brakes! Right now we're staying with other relatives before going to our new apartment and we helped them out by getting their vehicle legal which they appreciated because my uncle (not the one that treats me bad, his brother we're staying with) his girlfriend started a new job.

We could have moved earlier but they are delayed laying down carpet they said but hey, new carpet how can I complaining?

What's sad though is my husband is having bad balance problems, he's getting an MRI of his back. They are suspecting something neurological now...

Good to hear from you Angnix, I had noticed your absence.

Best of luck with your husband's balance problems. Those can be very complex and hard to treat. If he has a risk of falls, he should use something like a walker or a scooter to prevent falling, but also there may be some physical therapy exercises that can give him more stability.

What was his surgery for that he recently had?

The surgery was to repair the circulation problem in his leg, but now he's walking worse instead of better even though the surgery did what it was supposed to. He's very stubborn and doesn't want to use the Walker...

I guess we're not moving soon... We we're supposed to originally move in middle of last month but the apartment complex keeps telling us there are delays finishing the apartment and they keep doing it. My uncle doesn't want us here very much longer. Not sure what to do, I even explained to the apartments we're overstaying our welcome where we are at now.

That sux. I don't know what to tell you. Is the whole complex subsidized?

Squeaky wheel gets the oil... ask if you can move in and have the updates done after you are in place. Then keep phoning them every day or two. Eventually you will move to top of awareness for them.

The complex is for elderly or disabled people who fall under a certain income but it is not based on 30percent of income or anything like that. At first they said we could move in last month if we payed half of last months rent plus November's rent plus security deposit all at once and when I said I couldn't do that that is when they started saying the apartment was not finished. I kinda feel like they don't want us anymore.

Can’t you use your husbands back pay or SSDI to pay the deposit?

Ugh.... you don't want to lose the apartment, but they are definitely stringing you along. Money talks, apparently. It's shameful they would treat you that way.

I would try to find out the management company and appeal to a high up executive, explain your plight, and is there anything that can be done to get you moved in?

I met a lady in a shared taxicab service who was having the exact same issue - they kept telling her the apartment was not ready yet but she could move in "next month" and next month kept changing. Meanwhile she was staying in a homeless shelter and hated it!

I guess I would sign a lease that has the occupancy date on it. Then, you have a legal means to move things along. You then could threaten small claims court, or actually go to small claims court, to enforce your rights. Have you signed anything with the apartment complex?

I would talk to a social worker. Those low income disabled type apartments are usually run by the city or county. There's some organization that runs them & it might help to have an advocate help you talk to someone in charge at the organization running them. You were referred to that place by someone or an organization like maybe Adult Protective Services(I could be wrong about which one) so it might help to talk to them again & asks if you can get the same case worker who referred you there. They might could talk to the apartment complex or person in charge & move things along. You are def getting strung along by them & I would not plan on getting that place unless you do something to fight for it.

We got in the apartment finally but now my husband is sick again and in the hospital... Uggghhhh he just wants to enjoy his new place.

Unexpectedly we asked SSA to release more of his backpay and they released ALL of it... So we got money to buy things for the apartment! My husband went a little crazy though and bought him a 40" flat screen TV and is getting cable hooked up...

Oh and my husband expressed displeasure with them and threatened to find somewhere else to live and that seemed to make them hurry more. Everything is fine with my apartment now but poor husband is hooked up to Iv antibiotics and getting ultrasound on his kidneys and a heart monitor and they are talking about having a nurse come into the apartment etc... He's in rough shape

So sorry to hear your husband is suffering. I hope things improve soon.

Also, I'm glad you got into your apartment. Take a deep breath ... take a few of them ... and enjoy the newfound sense of stability.

I'm sending a cornucopia of good wishes your way.
