Why does my mother love redneck men?

I really don't get it. My mother is a doctor but she keeps settling for redneck men. With the possible exception of her first husband, her last three marriages have involved redneck men, including my father. These men are fat, think women are "b*****s", love country music, think Barack Obama is a Muslim, urinate on the ground, and wear Christianity like a badge to the Jesus fanclub. It really baffles me.

Sounds like my mother. Do you guys live in a rural area? Maybe that's the only men she feels are available and she thinks she can't do any better?

No, I live in the city. I do know that she thinks men are always supposed to make the first move and conservative leaning men have no hesitation saying things like "Hey, pretty lady!" or "Dayum, b***h! You got a nice ass!" while liberal leaning men are less inclined to say things like that with the exception of hip-hoppers (The ones in my area are homophobic and sexist just like the rednecks. They only differ with rednecks when it comes to racial issues). My grandfather was also harsh to her so I guess she feels that men are supposed to be loud and aggressive.

My mom has had four husbands and more relationships than I care to think about (some were men who were not much older than me).

Any time she actually goes out with a guy who seems decent she quickly dumps him. I don't get her taste in men.

Why don't you ask her?

Maybe she has some redneck characteristics & relates better to redneck guys

Maybe she thinks that's the best she can do. Maybe she likes to be the pretty lady with the nice butt. I could ask why my mother hates Germans. I know that her father served in England during WWII. Maybe she sees herself as a Redneck woman.

There's something to be said for a macho man. Personally I bemoan the fact that women are so ready to settle for effeminate weaklings who grow beards, have sociology degrees and cry about their feelings.

When it comes to getting in relationships there's no accounting for some peoples' taste. They take the "opposites attract" dictum a bit far...

I would never go out with a redneck because I was bullied by rednecks my entire childhood. They're all racist, homophobic, and stupid as hell. I grew up in a small town in Georgia so believe me you can't defend rednecks to me.
