I did something I knew I wasn't going to enjoy but I did it anyway because I hate my social isolation. I went down to the "pub" (In reality a sport's bar trying to pose as an Irish pub) downtown even though I've been to it a few times before and each endeavor was unproductive. It just seems to be the primary night life destination of my area.

Like my previous attempts, I saw that everyone else had company but me. There were two girls talking to each other at the bar and I thought of talking to them but I was immediately anxious because they were heavily in their conversation and I remember the last time I tried talking to girls at this place didn't work out so well so I was fearing history repeating itself. I was told by the bartender I needed to buy something if I wanted to stay so I left.

I hate that Aspergers has caused me to struggle socially and to fall behind so far. I already see the coming year beginning with me still being depressed that I don't have a girlfriend and missing the college registrations. :(

You should have just watched whatever was on TV at the bar.

I’m sorry you feel this way.

Have you decided what you would take at college? I’ve never been. I’d like to, but I don’t know what I might want to take- practical courses or personal interest courses.

I am undecided and I don't know if I'll ever truly go back. I've gone before but I've never achieved a degree because I got both academically and socially frustrated. My work schedule limits the amount of courses I can take per semester and the number of courses required for even an associate's degree is dauntingly high. I also was disappointed by the social scene. It wasn't like Animal House or Back to School which is what I was told it would be like.

There's no point going to the pub alone, especially if you're not going to drink. It's easier to establish new connections with people when you have friends around. You feel more freedom to be yourself, you have someone to lean back on when conversation with strangers doesn't work and it's 'social proofing'. You've gotta stop setting yourself up to fail.

Maybe start off with a single class at college. Something general and light. Get used to the environment and still keep working. Get that settled and then think about the social life.

You should be glad college is not like “Animal House” or “Back to School.”

I've actually gone to the local college multiple times so I know the environment there pretty well. The social scene is also very poor. People just lounging around in their own digital bubbles (cellphones and laptops) and lazy club coordinators who won't do anything to help you.

Go to a strip club. Only time I sit at a bar is for a meal.

Oh my goodness I'm sorry, but I sorted put my drink when j read that.

Markins! C'mon.

You're going out of your way to be pathetic and awkward.

I'm imagining you standing awkwardly in the corner glaring at everyone and the bartender has to move you on.

Get a grip mate!

Go out and do something you actually enjoy.

I wasn't standing in a corner nor was I glaring when it happened.

Why? Because many of the characters in both movies are stupid dolts....that's why.

Not so much "Back to School," though some of them are stupid dolts, too.

I feel anybody who likes to binge drink is a stupid dolt.

Bars really aren't the type of place where you would thrive, Marknis. Don't judge your life based upon your experiences in bars.

If I based my life on bar experiences, I wouldn't be in very good shape at all.
