I bought two turkeys last year, ate one, the other has been in my freezer since.it says good until December 2019. I got another this year. Is the old one still safe? And what do they mean about “for quality reasons it’s recommended to cook it within 7 months”?

The old one is still safe.

The quality would have been better, though, had you cooked it within 7 months from when you bought it.

Though I've kept things in a freezer for years, and those things came out okay.

Alternate view: I would definitely toss it out unless you've had it in a below-zero industrial freezer. If you're environmentally minded, toss it in the woods for the winter raccoons.

My mom sometimes keeps things in the freezer for a very long time. The stuff is safe to eat but sometimes it could be freezer burned or something & not taste the best.

cooking it within 7 months a quality issue rather than safety issue. quality meaning it might come out less perfect than a fresh one. i would look it up myself to find out what happens to a turkey when it has been in a freezer more than 7 mos.

Find someone that doesn't have much food to give it too.
