I finally realized why forgiveness is important. I always brag about the way I hold onto grudges but I'm starting to realize how that has really destroyed me. People have done and said some very hurtful things to me over the years and when I obsess on it and don't let it go it hurts me over time. I need to stop destroying myself.

Forgiveness isn't about letting the other person get away with wronging you, it's really about healing yourself and it helps you to love yourself more instead of hating yourself for what people do to you.

If I want to live in a world with love and peace then I myself need to be loving and peaceful insteadvof hateful.

And most of all I need to learn to forgive myself.

This is the best post I've read all day.

All year, maybe.

I just meant everyone could stand to learn more about it.

As long as you don't lose your sense of justice.

There is no real justice in this world. I realized that a long time ago.

Innocent people get punished and bad people get rewarded all the time.

That doesn't mean that you shouldn't want justice. What you really mean, if course, is that there is only a little justice in the world - not none.

What I really want is to live in world with more love and peace instead of violence and hate A world where people no longer have to fight in wars and everyone actually cares about their fellow human beings without finding ways to hurt or kill each other and claiming it was "justified".

I get sick and tired of how hateful people in this world can be towards each other. :(

Carrying a grudge is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.

Good for you!

Well put.

We have to start with ourselves which heals and empowers us.

"Be the change you want to see in the world"

Grudges are one of the reasons the world is in such a state.

'forgive' is a misleading word because it gets associated with 'kissing and making up'. in this case it's disconnecting from someone. severing emotional ties.
