When I see people on an online community making fun of murdered rap stars or saying that a criminal deserves to be tortured to death while denying that it is actually torture I start to question the morality of such a place. I've met some really nice people here and two of them I now consider my close friends, but there's also some members here who's comments I find disturbing. It's not just here either, it's EVERY online community including YouTube and FaceBook.

Have we humans lost our sense of humanity or what? Maybe we never had it to begin with? :|

I let my heart get frozen
to keep away the rot

- Leonard Cohen, Almost Like the Blues

There are people who remind me this verse (though I mean pepole I know IRL)

I'm not the type who can hardened his heart to other people's BS just to protect himself.

Most people just say that crap to sound tough. Very few people could actually stomach the horror of torture, but it's easy to say you do.

Right because showing empathy or compassion for another human being is viewed as a sign of weakness.

Humans are ego driven, we're all guilty of it to some extent, otherwise none of us would be here saying anything.
Some choose to take it up a level.
Personally, I think that makes them look a bit sad, that they have to go to that extent to get a reaction.
Empty life, much?

I hate it when a parent films themselves doing something fun with their babies or children, and you find a load of "that's child abuse!" in the comments, even though it is nowhere near child abuse.

It's more complicated than that. Humans tend to dehumanize "the enemy", and so not only are they utterly despised, but anyone who attempts to sympathize with them is immediately shunned without even being heard out.

A great example of this is the mere suggestion that some of what's going on in the Middle East right now is due to Western interference since the end of WWII. Start making comments like that and you're very quickly branded a terrorist sympathizer.

Screaming out for barbarism shows you're on our side, I guess.

why would u expect everybody to be... well... what u, a specific person, perceive as moral or nice? ppl are different. u cant demand or expect everybody to follow ur moral rules. by what logic? because we all are autists? it only is an arbitary grouping. we share something, we dont share the rest unless it happens on a personal level. there are people here, who i dont enjoy communicating with. i just dont. a few people apparently dont like me, too. its how it works, twiz. u see somebody u dont click with, u go and talk to somebody else. there is no "we humans" as 1 integer mind body. there is individuals. each of which can be messed up in a different way. look at some of ur own threads. they could really put another person off, ukno. not me. but quite several ppl. dont judge others, it doesnt suit anybody. none of us is 100 bux to be loved by everybody. i wont be responding here again.

I looked at the topics the OP seems to refer to and I must disagree.
It's natural that sensitivity of people varies. Being very sensitive is not weakness. Being not really sensitive is not malignancy.
You don't need to claim other people evil to have an excuse not to like them.
It is much healthier simply not to like them without any excuse. And then disagree and/or avoid.

I don’t believe people were making fun of torture, per se.

I believe lots of the joking is a defense against feeling the full impact of torture and things like that.

People actually living in rough conditions often develop this defensive posture.

ASS-P is a homeless person who lives under rough conditions. He often uses ironic, “gallows” humor.

Yes, some people develop a hangman sense of humor to cope with horrors.
My defensive posture is all about extensive analysys and critique of the news I hear in terms of precision and reliability. Some claim I'm "soulless" about it but I beg to differ.
There are many ways of dealing with awful news, strong emotional response is just one of them.

^^ Have you ever read Arthur Koestler's "Darkness At Noon?"

It made a big impact on me when I was 15 years old. There was lots of "gallows humor" in it.

Yep. You're absolutely correct. People react differently to adverse things. It often doesn't decrease the person's feelings about the adverse event. Some people use logic; others humor.

Expressing humor in adverse situations does not mean that the person feels the adverse situation any less than someone who has a directly emotional response to the situation.

No one is being tortured. It's all media hype.

Every person who is executed suffers pain.

One murdering rapist is no exception.

Did anyone consider the pain of his victims?
