There isnt much to do in my town. I do as much as I can but Im still bored. I wish I had a place to dress up but the bars in this town closed for good ever since they banned smoking. Guess it was bad for business to ban smoking. Im not moving to the city. Theres too much crime. I would hate it. Plus I dont want to move away from family. I dont really have the means to move anywhere else. I started drinking again because the days are so long with nothing to do. I get bored and lonely. I feel lucky to live where I do, but theres not much to do it seems. Maybe Im not trying hard enough?

If you have high speed internet, you can get quite a bit of programming with a subscription to Netflix. I also enjoy several different pastimes - genealogy and gardening chief among them. You might see if you can volunteer a couple of hours a week at a local nursing home, public library, even an elementary school reading to the children. Two hours is not very long and it gets you out among people and feeling useful.

Watch the drinking, it can easily turn into alcoholism.

Never thought about volunteering. Im kind of afraid to do that because of social anxiety. And because Im lazy. And because I think its scary. Been working on my art a little bit. I want to get famous from it. Maybe I should try to do that!

Yes I should watch the drinking. Went to a coffee shop to sober up tonight. It took a long time. Felt like I was getting more drunk as I sat there. I would have a lot of money now if I hadnt been drinking.

Anyone have any advice about becoming a famous artist?

Are there any art classes or collectives at community centres near you? One place I go to has regular art shows, and sometimes sales, for members there.

My son wants to be a famous artist too. He just made his first real sale! He posts some of his work on instagram and used some attention getting tags. It’s going to be used in a documentary. You could put some of your work “out there”.

Volunteering is good. Like it or not we need human contact, at least a bit. And having a scheduled obligation adds structure to your life. One day a week, for a few hours could help.

Art classes are a good idea. There are some for free around here all you gotta do is sign up. Not sure about volunteering, we will see.

I just wish there was a place to dress up and go out. Like I said the bars here closed down. I dont know where to meet men anymore.

Maybe at those art classes - what could be better than having such a passion for creativity in common!
Hope you're feeling a little less down. Best wishes! :D

Same here. I tried XBox live for a social outlet but felt all the games were geared towards men. I might look into playstation or nintendo switch.

I’m sorry you’re feeling down Sarahsmith. I think it’s a great idea to channel your feelings into making art. Focus on what you’re doing, not on how well you’re doing, for best results. YouTube & Pinterest have an infinity number of art tutorials at your disposal. Practice, practice, practice. :) Some ideas for things to draw: 1) self-portraits 2) your hands 3) your feet 4) your knick knacks 5) your shoes 6) a close-up of your eye 7) your pet. Silence your inner critic. Use what you’ve got & draw what you see. Good luck!

Video games are a great way to blow free time. I spend most of my days alone even though I live in a city of 700,000.
