Maybe stupider isn't a real word but what would I know? I always had trouble remembering things and trouble concentrating but it seems to have been getting worse in the last year or two. I used to be able to multitask better than I can now.

The worst thing is that nowadays I'll be about to do something and then a second later I'll forget. Then a couple of days later I'll find that I didn't do it. Like I'll be about to put something back in the fridge and then two days later I'll find it left out.

It's affecting my work. I was already worried my employers would figure out what a moronic buffoon I was but now that seems even more likely. Society expects me to be smart. They ostracise people who don't meet their expectations for intelligence.

Every time I screw up it's another public humiliation. Maybe it's biological but maybe it's somehow my fault. Somehow I brought this on myself. Maybe I lost my mind because I didn't try hard enough to keep it. It's my fault. Somehow it's always my fault.

You are always getting smarter, neither, or stupider

Getting stupider is not a catastrophe

A couple of months ago I told the counselor I'm getting stupider

She was like, why do you think that

What the flying f**k is such a big deal about getting stupider

You could not very well expect to constantly get smarter

You are aging, once upon a time I had a brilliant memory so long as it didn't have to do with numbers. Today my brain performs brilliantly as a colander.

It could be related to stress or sleep or diet.

My intellectual abilities have always been frustratingly fluctuating. This made some teachers in high school believe I was doing drugs - one day the brightest student in the school, the other day unable to speak a full sentence. I wasn't on drugs, that's how I am.
There is variety of factors contributing to the efect, I could identify:
1. sleep - the biggest effect
2. regular meals
3. my alone time
4. contact with nature
5. thougths and feelings being processed in the background of my mind - they use a lot of resources

Your contributors may differ from mine.

I feel the same way. I used to be a very good reader however nowadays i'm struggling even with reading comprehension and concentrating. I feel like i wasted all my intelligence in my teenage years.

This means it's time for you to be promoted to a 'Manager', and gets paid twice than what you get paid for now.

Wow, this sounds like what I have been experiencing lately lol. Anymore, it's like I can remember something stupid I heard weeks ago, yet can't remember the most important things that I heard yesterday, or even remember what that one thing I needed from the store was. 10+ years ago, I thought I was the most intelligent person that I had ever known, and now I know for a fact that I am probably the dumbest, and I know some very stupid people. I feel more like I have simply become more aware of how dumb I truly am and less that I have aged and my brain is working differently.

Retro, the examples you gave aren't stupidity, particularly. They're more like impairments of executive function, or maybe something that derives from attention-deficit disorder.

Try joking internally and externally about how absent-minded you can be.

Internally means your self talk. Externally means conversations you actually have with other people.

NEVER say "wow was that stupid!" which is overly global. Instead call yourself "absent-minded." By naming a narrow subset of mental abilities, you remember that there are many other domains that are intact.

It could also be related to medication, especially psych meds. That's assuming RG started any a couple years ago. My girlfriend started impulse buying & kinda lost her ability to budget due to trying Lexapro a few years ago. Things got alittle better after she stopped it but she still has lots of issues/problems with that compared to how she used to be.

Reminds me of something I did the other day. I saw there was no toilet paper left in the bathroom, so I thought I'd better put a new roll into the bathroom before I'd forget and need it. So I went to the cupboard where the toilet paper rolls are kept...but then half an hour later I did use the toilet and I found I hadn't put a new roll of toilet paper in the bathroom at all - even though I specifically went into the cupboard earlier to get one. I mean, WTF? I tried remembering what I had done when I'd opened the cupboard, but I couldn't remember. I must have opened the cupboard, stared at the toilet paper rolls and closed it again. Again, WTF?

I just laughed though, and figured that maybe I'm a Sim and my player cancelled my action.

If I've got to go anywhere, I'm in and out the front door about 5 times getting all the bits that I've forgotten. It turns into a joke sometimes because I've got to on a massive hunt for things like keys and cards etc
