I think you've provided your own answer -- it's all about the money.
Even then, "Dating Services" are notorious for ripping off their clients. "Support Groups" aren't much better. Combine them into one function, and the exploitation multiplies.
You might be better off visiting a "Meet Market" -- a singles' bar or club -- and watching how people interact to see what works best.
