I'm thinking of going on a hunger strike

I'm tired of my father complaining about me being home all day with unlimited access to all the food in the house. Ever since I've developed a food gut, he's resenting me more and more even though I do chores around the house. I take out the trash, take care of the pets, vacuum the floors, and empty the dishwasher. I eat breakfast and lunch normally. I do eat snacks but not many. What does he do? He goes to work, I don't know what his lunch breaks are like, he comes home in the afternoon, drinks several beers before dinner, eats dinner, and he's still hungry and criticizes me.

A hunger strike might not stop him from telling you off

The body thinks, starvation and reduces appetite

It wouldn’t serve any purpose, in my opinion.

Not a good idea. Parents are just picky with adult children. They will find any reason to not want you to be there. You should probably just move out. My parents gave me a hard time when I lived with them, but were nicer when I moved out.

I'd say it may be a better use of your time to look into potentially moving out.

I mean do you help pay for any of the food or pay any rent? If you can't move away perhaps if you contribute a little financially to the food and rent that would help to get him off your back.

I live on social security disability. Can't hold a job. Can't drive a car. Can't have a social interaction with strangers for more than two minutes.

But you can surf the Web.....and go on YouTube and listen to your favorite songs.

Imagine if this were before 1995 or so?

Fasting isn't such a bad idea. It would probably do you no end of good to lose weight and control your gut biome which can also reduce anxiety levels as a welcome side effect. The less you eat the better you will feel. Part of his griping at you may be concern for your health. My son hardly ever leaves his room. I am terrified for his future health. Access to food constantly is a bad thing for anyone. Look at the state of society in general! It isn't about looks or money, it is about health and about how you feel. Too much or the wrong food makes you feel sluggish and miserable. Digesting it slows you down while a bit of hunger sharpens the brain and gives you energy. Look into intermittent fasting. Only eat during a short time interval but do make sure to eat a good assortment of vegetables and fruit in that time to get enough nutrients. Then you can show your Dad up and perhaps help him improve his health and mood so you can have a better relationship as well as feel less anxious.

Yeah but still eat regular meals...

Quitting snacking could be a good idea.

I don't do that myself but I pay rent and buy snacks out of my benefit money. My rent is just for meals and apart from meals it's for the same things any landlord would provide, such as electricity, heating and shelter.

You sound lime you're being over dramatic to me...a hunger strike is normally done out of protest.

What are you protesting about?

Is it because your father is a bit annoyed at you because he's tired and hungry when he comes home from work doing a job to keep a roof over your head.

I suggest you stop bitching and show a bit of gratitude.

Well you could use some of the SSI to help pay rent. Actually you get more money if you pay something for rent...so if you paid your dad a set amount of rent each month they'd have to increase your amount unless you're already receiving the highest amount.

Are you getting EBT/Food Stamps? you qualify if you're on SSI so if you're not already getting them you should apply.

Also you can qualify for subsidized housing on disability, you have to apply for it....and then you get on a waiting list for them to find you some subsidized housing options. It can take at least a year but if you did want to move to your own place that is how you could do it. I was going to myself when I lived with my mom on SSI, but I ended up finding another living situation before hearing back from the housing thing so I didn't end up using it.

My mother takes about $500 or more from my bank account to pay rent. My father gets on my case whenever he gets drunk. There are 6 people living in my house. This includes me, my two younger brothers, mom & dad, and my youngest brother's girlfriend.

Hmm, she should not have access to your bank account to just take whatever amount she wants. Can you get a new bank account she has no access to and change your disability deposit to go there? She is within her right to charge rent, but not to access your bank account and take whatever amount she feels like each month.

Might not be a terrible idea to try and look into the subsidized housing, does not seem things will really improve if you remain there.

She's supposed to have access. It makes it easier to transfer money around when needed. Our rent is almost $1500. Everybody chips in. She's not the one charging rent. We live in a rent neighborhood.
