I'm 33 years old and Asperger Syndrome, I don't have a driving license because I've never applied for it.

Recently, I got a job as a security guard in a factory, in my country people with disabilities, due to the light nature of the work, are often employed as security staff or as porters or receptionists in hotels.

I got permission from a doctor to work in overtime, people with disabilities cannot work more than 7 hours in my country unless the doctor agrees, I even got permission to work 24 hours and 48 hours off, although on weekdays the norm is 12 hours for 24 hours off.

I was trained by a very nice elderly gentleman who makes an extra pension, said that he did not complain about the amount of the pension, but did not want to sit at home and do nothing, but he got permission from the doctor to work a maximum of 12 hours and only during the day because he has diabetes

Although, according to my older brother, I shouldn't, because I have poor reflexes.

Although my friend's sister, she approached her driving license 35 times before she finally passed :-)

Although my other friend who is friends with her and her brother also knows that I have Asperger, he jokes that she and her younger son who turns 18 this year, probably also has Asperger, because when he talks to her brother, her husband, or her older 25-year-old son, everyone is very open, but when he talks to her or her younger son, he feels like talking to Commander Data, or some Vulcan, devilishly intelligent but also very withdrawn.

As I mentioned before, I talked to my psychologist about it.

I told her that if I got a driving license, I would buy a cheap car and register it on custom license plates, it bloody expensive, and can be only 5 character long would chose it as follow "PDUPE" shortened from Pocałucie Mnie w Dupę, with means "Kiss My Ass" for anyone who claiming I should not drive she laughed and said that from she know it would be impossible because registration cannot sound vulgar in Polish :-(

I said that then I would use English and register is KSMASS or in German for example as Scheisse xD

And I just sick and tired to be a good boy who lets everyone do bad things to my rear side, you know what I mean ;-)

I wouldn't trust myself to drive on the highway, due to my easily distractable nature, hatred of waiting, anxiety issues, etc. I know I need to learn to drive eventually though, it's practically a requirement in Canada since everything is so damn spread out. I hate relying on other people for rides. Even if I didn't have these issues however, there's no way I could afford to drive since the disability program I'm on only pays so much.

If you want, you could look up "autism friendly driving instructor" in your area

Having said that, I am bad at driving

But so what? Plenty of drivers are even worse than me

Plenty of drivers have bad reflexes

I can drive, but I don't own a car, can't afford it on disability. I do occasionally rent a car using a discount car rental website, vroomvroomvroom.ca I can't parallel park and parking in general is difficult for me if the spaces are really small.

And what do you think about this:

told my psychologist that if I got a driving license, I would buy a cheap car and register it on custom license plates, it bloody expensive, and can be only 5 character long would chose it as follow "PDUPE" shortened from Pocałucie Mnie w Dupę, with means "Kiss My Ass" for anyone who claiming I should not drive

But she said that is a bad idea and i have Anger issue :D

Pawel, it's hilarious, but it's rather rude.

I'd concentrate on being courteous & polite on the road, then putting funny stickers on your car, maybe not a funny license plate.

In America one of the best is an election sticker marked "ANY FUNCTIONING ADULT 2020!" A nice place for Aspie sarcasm, the bumper sticker is.

So you think such license plate would be rude?

Let's just say that I wouldn't put one like that on my car...but if you must adorn your vehicle with sarcasm, don't pay the government for a special license plate when you could just put a sticker on it.

What do you mean? I feel depressed sometimes and that other people look down on me, that they feel better than me, because AS, why try to make friends if usually other people not like me, so showing those people that you gave s**t on them is the answer :P

I've been driving for about 15 years.

Sounds like fun, funeralxempire.

I couldn't bring myself to modify the old Corolla so I just enjoy driving it stock--and doing repairs, and all that. But driving is relaxing--especially on empty roads.

You don't happen to use it to deliver tofu, do you?

No, it was the first car I ever rode in when I was born and also the one I passed my driver's test in, the one I took apart & fixed in the front yard...no, all my life the definition of "car" has been synonymous with "1996 Corolla." So I'd prefer to keep it stock--they're pretty that way, and I like the fact that stock parts cost next to nothing because I'm a terrible tightwad.

What have you got and how have you fixed it up?

Still pretty cool, even if it's not a Levin or Trueno** coupe. I'm a big fan of the older RWD Corollas, but they kept making fun models even after it went FF for at least a few generations.

I've got a '06 Civic with a straight pipe and lowered an inch. It's loud, but it'll sound better once I install a 4-1 header (even if a 4-2-1 is better suited for a street car, a 4-1 sounds better). The goal is to make it sound like a sports bike.

**Trueno is the equivalent of the Levin, but of the Toyota Sprinter, which was a sibling model to the Corolla in Japan. The Corolla was sold at Corolla dealerships, the Sprinter at Toyopet dealerships, iirc.

2006 Civic...and it sounds like it's going to be pretty neat! Good luck with the modifications.

Mine's not a coupe, of course--that would be fun, but the 7th-gen was available (according to the owners manual) as a sedan or a station wagon. I like it because it's easy on gas, tires, and brakes, and a lot more responsive & nimble than a 2015-ish model--especially the Ford Fusion automatic. What a terrible car! They're even more sluggish than my ancient Corolla and the steering and visibility are beyond awful. Nope, I'm hanging on to the old machine in stock form because it's cheap to get those good spare parts, and hopefully it'll last for years and years. Someone ran into the back of it at a light (texting, amiright?) and fortunately they didn't even scuff the paint. It's not glamorous or loud, and some mornings it won't start the first time, but it's a perfect car for me. (Besides, it saves the AE86 and other rare variants for the real enthusiasts, not for someone like me who enjoys a basic old-fashioned compact commuter.)

Have you thought of an engine swap on your Civic or do they come with something pretty substantial to begin with? I am not familiar with Honda cars, unfortunately, but I've seen them out and about--they're always moving right along and I never know what's going on under the hood.
