I'm in college right now, and I don't really know what I want to do in the future. I don't have a real passion for anything, and I keep switching interests constantly. Right now, I don't have much in my personal life to look forward to beyond holidays with my family, but most days just seem to go by without anything noteworthy happening. I'm worried that the rest of my life may be like that, just existing until I retire or die.

Likewise I am not good at anything and I don't like anything particularly

But I am 36 years old so whatever

Nobody needs to be good at anything

Not everyone is good at their job

Not everyone likes their job

Nobody needs to enjoy anything

Although I did chose a degree (not necessarily the best one), I bounced around after college. Temped for four years in all sorts of departments (financial, communications, engineering, R&D, wellness). Loved it. I eventually "fell" into a career. My Aspie-like BFF got a Masters and then worked minimum waged jobs for near 10 years before she "fell" into her career. Maybe there was a "better" way, but it worked well enough. Now we are both in our late 40s and wanting to do something different... so back at square 1 (for me, she wants to continue in her industry).

So, I'm right there with you again: scared of the future. And I would look forward to my future 60-year-old self looking back on my current 40-year-old self and thinking: it all worked out just fine.

It's ok not to know what you want to do. Probably lots of people don't really have much of a plan, but just sort of get into a career in a roundabout way, or maybe several different careers. Learn something you think you might like, have new experiences every chance you get, and enjoy the holidays with your family. Those things won't seem very noteworthy now, but later on, they will.

I never really had a clue what I wanted to do. Both my career paths were related to my two hobbies.

Don't be scared of the future. Let the future be scared of you!

That is really good advise.
