Im scared to move to my own apartment because in so many low income buildings in town, they have raised the rent to a ridiculous amount and all the poor people had to move out. They arent allowed to raise it unless they do renovations so there has been a lot of renovations in town. So I continue to live in a dirty rooming house. Im also frusraited because I have toxic friends. I have trouble making new friends and it doesn’t help that there isn’t any group events in town that I like.

Doesn’t seem to be any way to make life better because of greedy landlords and weasel friends.

Someone stole my food from the fridge that could have lasted me a week. I walked around town today and all the while wished I had somewhere else to live. This place might force me out. I might have to go into a low income apartment and pray that they don’t raise the rent. I also won’t be able to afford internet.

I wish there was a nice place I could move where I could improve my life. I don’t know if such a place exists. But I’m tired of living here. Sometimes I wonder if self doubt is holding me back. When I talk to my peers it just seems like they have more control in life. Like you know, they can make decisions. Something has to change. I’m getting weary.

Sorry for not replying. I don't know what to say. I have not been in your position in the same way so I can't empathise. I can certainly sympathise. (I am learning the difference between empathy and sympathy... Hence why I use the words).

But I do hope that there is a solution. There is always a solution somewhere. It is finding it that is not always so easy.

I have felt like I don't belong where I live my whole life. I get it. Sometimes I think you just need to try to find a job somewhere you like and just take the risk and move. What is the worst that could happen if you're in a place you don't like anyway.

That’s why I have been procrastinating. I don’t want to work. But it might be the only way to make better choices. I don’t even know if I could handle a job because I’m on disability. And getting to work might be hard because I cannot drive and never will be able to because of cognitive problems.

What is your life like mountain goat? Are you the guy that said they were poor but happy not to work? I can’t remember who said that. You can private message me if you like or if you’d rather not tell me I understand. I’m just trying to get different perspectives.

Depends how old you are. I was on disability because I have MS until I realized I needed something more with my life and went back to school. Maybe you are trying to find out what you want out of life.

I find it hard to get control over my life. To makes decisions and stick with them. I am very weak. I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to change when it seems easy for everyone else.

Well I change is not easy for me. Thats why I ask your age because when I was in my 20s things seemed one way and now that I am in my 30s I kind of look at things a bit differently. But, I think things will calm down for you a little if you just kind of learn to be put into an extremely uncomfortable position and realize you can do things.

I’m 34. Maybe it’s so hard to change because I don’t have to grow up here. There are no bills and free wifi and laundry. But the building is dirty.

Is there rent stabilization where you are?

If so, rent can only be raised a certain percentage at every new lease.

I know you are probably eligible to receive a “rent subsidy.”

Rents are going up and up across Canada, and there is fewer and fewer affordable or social housing spots. Affordable housing gives way to gentrification. I'm in the same boat as you in that I'm 33 years and on disability and I really would have no place to live if I didn't live at my parents. I can drive but I can't afford a car. That's with making $1400+ a month on disability I would be forced into a rat hole too.

Where do you live sarahsmith?

When I was unemployed I had to live in a 1 bedroom granny flat in the backyard of some drug dealer's house.

There was no security. Anyone could walk into his backyard. The locks on the granny flat were easy to pick.

I got my stuff stolen several times. Even my TV. I'm pretty sure it was the drug dealer or one of his friends. The cops did nothing but write down some notes.

Like you I was scared to get a full time job. But I took a leap of faith and I got one.

After that, I could afford to live in a cleaner and safer house in a neighbourhood with a much lower crime rate.

I moved into a more secure apartment in a low crime neighbourhood until the bank approved my mortgage for a house in the same neighbourhood.

Anyway this thread is about you, not me. What I'm saying is that if you take the plunge and get a job you may find that having a job isn't so bad and you may be able to move into a place where people don't steal your stuff.

If you can't handle the job, just quit. You'll be no worse off after quitting than you are now.

At least you'll know for certain whether or not you can do it.
