I know this is an older post but I'm curious what sort of counter imagery did you combat it with. Maybe watching something visually plesant like a Muppet marathon might make counter images available.

Another approach: My friend once told me as a memory device if you associate something violent or sexual you'll remember better. His example was when he puts his checkbook in his glovebox he pauses and imagines the door violentlly slamming into his fingers over and over. So now years later even I remember where his checkbook is. What I'm getting at is maybe you could counter it with something sexual? (For the time being)\

Cutting sucks. I thought I invented it when my girlfriend went away to school at age 19. For years I've had to answer questions about the scars. Now everyone knows and I get stigmatized.
I know this sounds nuts but what about buying a stun gun instead? No scars.
(Again this is for the emergency time being)
