Trying to move but scared

There is an organization that is helping me find an apartment. I’d like to get out of the rooming house I’m in, even though it’s cheap, because there is a rat infestation and many other gross things about this place. But I keep hearing about everyone’s rent going up, so they have to move. Someone here told me if I’m on disability, housing will pay a portion of my rent with a subsidy thingy. Do other people on disability not know about this? Is that why they have to move when their rent goes up? I don’t want to live where I am forever because it’s disgusting here. But it would suck if I got in somewhere and had to move in a year because the rent went up. I’m scared of what might happen.

It is difficult to know what to tell you. The best decision is the oe you feel most at peace.

It's so hard to find affordable housing these days.

Some might not know about it, but I think it's more likely that the problem is that the amount paid by the housing won't go up even if the rent does. As in, if they pay a certain sum regardless of what the rent is, one might be able to afford it when it's 400, but their budget will become too tight once the rent goes up to 500. Even if it's something like they pay half of the rent, the sum the person has left to pay will also go up and might not be affordable.

I had to move once simply because my roommate wanted to go live with her partner and I couldn't have afforded our (rented) place from that time on my own. I ended up from sharing 100 m2 with one person (plus a dog) to living alone in a space of 32 m2 with the same price.

The organization that I thought could help me said they are more for people facing homelessness. Since I'm not, I will be on the bottom of the list. The lady I was talking to told me not to get my hopes up in other words. But she said there is a form I can fill out at the welfare office that has to do with housing. So I guess I'lll do that and hopefully have more luck. But the lady I was talking to said there really isn't anything available in town right now within my price range anyway.
