Hi, guys, we need to talk, AGAIN.
You know what I'm sick of? People who think that this is ALREADY the worst year ever. "Ooh, let's cancel this year!"
Get real! Bad things happen ALL THE TIME. Not just this year, not just last year, either. A new year doesn't change the way life works. At the same time, though, life goes on. That's the way life goes. Gotta take the good with the bad.

Every year is bad because it ends up being like the old year. There's still war and famine and disease and greed and climate change and stupidity. What's so great about a New Year when it always turns out to be like the old one? ![]()
Also I'm a firm believer in "depressive realism". People who are depressed are seeing the world for what it really is, and there's nothing we can do about it. The world leaders are idiots and the shrinks just want to numb our minds with drugs.

Yeah no, I'm going to call BS on this pessimistic way of thinking because society and humanity has accomplished so much that would never have been accomplished had society resigned itself to a numb cynicism that creates stagnation instead of progress. The interconnection of humanity via the internet, the rise of disability awareness and disability rights, the banning of racism and genocide throughout most of the world, the rise of women's rights and women's liberation, the ability for humanity to live in peace and travel safely and for luxury, the creation of the Large Hadron Collider, the Human Genome Project, the discovery of many cures for many ailments and diseases, discovery of penicillin, more sanitary living conditions, eradication of plagues and diseases that used to depopulate entire societies and made life expectancy low, etc. etc. etc. all of the above and more was literally accomplished in this century alone. To deny the fact that our society is the least racist, sexist, and most open in all of human history, and it was through the hard work, ingenious systems erected, and sacrifices of millions of brave men, women and even children trailblazers, makes it silly to ignore all of that for a bleak pessimism that hasn't helped humanity at all.
I know better than anyone here how evil the world can be because my family is Palestinian and the Western world is literally watching as my people and their homeland is being stolen and transgressed against, yet despite all that I still the good in humanity and refuse to accept a resignation to fate being negative when all of humanity's achievements were made possible by the belief that their ventures and endeavors would amount to reality better than it was found before.

Well if this January has already been worse for someone than any other month they can remember in their lives, then this year can be called the worst year so far for them. Of course, if someone makes the same complaints every year then they're likely just being dramatic.
Personally I've had a rather bad start for this year, but I'll try to stay optimistic. Hopefully I've already used up all the bad luck reserved for me for this year. ![]()
