I told my uncle about my new diagnosis... He got so mad for some reason they diagnosed me with autism.... I don't understand why someone would be angry?

Then he went into a sphel about how they stick diagnosis on people for no reason and the psychiatrists are doing it just to make money...

Sigh I guess I really don't have to prove it to people though... I don't know why I think I do...

If this is the same uncle who tried to set you up with the creep, he needs a diagnosis himself. Along with some therapy/meds.

Not surprised you were diagnosed. Have been reading your posts for a while and that was my guess.

BTW, you're in good company with that diagnosis. Not sure what you're uncle's issue is, but somebody should probably figure it out so he can stop making you miserable.

Most people are familiar mainly with lower-functioning forms of autism, so the fact that you seem to be getting on fairly well might embarrass him. My dad was "angry-shocked" when I told him I was HFA but he read about it a couple evenings, thought it made perfect sense, and that is how that works. However, I don't know if your uncle is like dad; he might not be the type to actually use reason as he obviously doesn't use etiquette & boundaries either.

Your uncle may fear yet subconciously know that psychiatrist should get interested in him. That may trigger fight-or-flight in him at the very thought of psychiatric diagnoses - psychological defenses like denial can grow to irrational behaviors when one can't face their own demons.

Congrats on the LONG overdue diagnosis despite your Uncle's lack of understanding on the subject.
