Today would have been my mother's 86th birthday.

I can't stop thinking that I'll never hear her reassuring voice again.

My parents are in their 70's and 80's, still alive at this point but I'm pretty sure I have that moment coming in the next 10 or 15 years. I've always gotten along with them well so it'll be intensely strange to have one then the other sort of 'pop' out of social existence.

To that extent I can't say I empathize - yet - but maybe what helps is thinking of what she did that you think made the world a better place and carrying it on for her.
