Lately I've been gagging worse and worse...

Yesterday I had a stomach emptying test... Radioactive eggs anyone??? Ugh they were gagarific!! !

Tomorrow I have a stomach scope which I am not looking forward to because I have a fear of anaesthesia... :( :( :(

Oh and today my uncle almost drowned in the river... :( :( :(

I bet the eggs were probably microwaved into a slab no? Even more disgusting to push down when you are already feeling so sick. Does your scope require general or local anesthesia? I have a fear of anything being shoved down my throat so I needed to be completely knocked out for my scope, local anesthesia wouldn't cut it. Does your GI doctor believe it's gastroparesis that you have?

Is your uncle alright? That sounds scary to almost lose him. Hope your procedure goes well tomorrow.

I really don't know what type of anaesthesia they will use... I can't sleep thinking about it...

I got the results of both tests today...

Bad...

I have severe stomach emptying issues, inflammation, polyps, and Schatzkis ring. The doctor made it sound like he tuned up a car "we dialated your esaphogus, removed polyps and took biopsies..."

Sigh

((( Angnix )))

I think Gastroparesis is pretty common with Diabetes, but it's still frustrating as a new diagnosis. Please don't be too worried about the polyps. It's good they did biopsies which are standard procedure any time a polyp is removed. It's possible they are benign, and thank goodness they're long gone!

I hope they're able to adjust your meds to help you feel better. I'm so proud of you for contacting the doctor when you first developed these symptoms. Best wishes for a healthy response to your treatment.

Glad to hear the worst is over, {{{{ Angnix }}}}
Though there’s no cure for schatski’s ring, it can be treated and and managed with procedures that will stretch or fracture the ring, which will allow solid food to pass through the esophagus more freely. Polyps, as Is mentioned, are more often than not, harmless, and 1 in 4 people tend to get them. Sounds like you’re on the road to hopefully taking control of what’s been causing you a whole lot of trouble and distress. xx

Sorry to about hear the bad news :( Gastroparesis is a difficult disease to cope with. When will you get the results of the biopsies? Has your doctor prescribed anything for your gastric emptying issues?

I've had gastroparesis since 2016 but I've mostly got it under control. I have liquid meals(ensures, carnation instant breakfast) for breakfast and lunch, and then I take 10mg Metochlopramide 30 mins before dinner so I can eat solid food. Right before my first bite I take 1650mg of ginger(speeds up gastric emptying in large doses and helps appetite/nausea). Metochlopramide can have serious side effects so I limit myself to once a day rather than 3 times a day that most doctors will prescribe, it seems to limit the risk of long QT, Tardive dyskensia, and anxiety that taking it 3 times a day would cause.

There aren't many options for gastroparesis, mainly Metochlopramide, Domiperdone, and off label Mirtazapine along with meds for nausea like Ondansestron or Phenergan. My GI doctor had me try an OTC med called Iberogast which I built a tolerance to quickly but it may help you.

Here is a link to a study showing ginger can help with motility and gastric emptying in large enough doses.

The biopsy results said 1-2 weeks. I haven't been given any prescriptions yet. I talk to the gastroenterologist Monday and my primary care doctor the next day about this.

I'm still nausious and gagging so more has to be done I guess.

Best of luck for the biopsy results, a couple weeks isn't too long to wait for answers I guess. Maybe you can try some chewing on crushed ice in the meantime for nausea, that helps me at least and its free.
