I don't have the virus at all, but my job shut down it's business and everyone laid off until further notice because of the virus. I tried applying at new jobs for the last few days and it's the same thing, all these companies are shutting down now because of it. It seems that the situation is killing a lot of economy.

Is there anything I can do? Or we are going to have to really try to turn up the heat and protest in the streets sort of thing in order to get business and the economy to re-open?

You should stay home and away from crowds. I have lots of non perishable food to eat so I can go a few months without having to go shopping. Protesting in the street could as bad as the 1918 Liberty Loan Parade they had in Philadelphia. While the 16000 Spanish Flu deaths weren't entirely due the Parade, it was over 20 times worse than similar places. They should have cancelled the Parade that brought 200,000 people together in a big crowd.

It is a problem even if only young people gather together, as they act as carriers who spread the disease to old people, who get sick and die from diseases like this. Most people aren't loners who never see their relatives.

If enough young people get infected some will carry the disease yet feel perfectly fine. Not many, but enough to make the disease very deadly, as they will spread it.

How much is unemployment insurance in Canada? Would it be much less than your salary in your case?

Sorry you were laid off. That really sucks. I’ve been laid off. It sucks.

In the US, people are probably going to get some sort of subsidy in addition to UI in some places. There will at least 2 weeks mandatory “sick time” in New York State.

Well it's not so much the employment insurance that I am worried about, but other things. The grocery stores are closing down, so how will I get food, etc. How long is this going to go one for etc. Things like that worry me more.

This is worrying me too, in case I lose my job, even temporarily until this all blows over, which doesn't look like it will for another year until they release the vaccinations.

I'm really scared. I need some comfort and reassurance. I cannot afford to be unemployed and I hate receiving benefits, as that's more stress than anything.

I'm having sleepless nights over it. I'm going to end up having panic attacks so severe that I will be rushed to hospital. It's just the uncertainty of it all. If I lose my job we could be chucked out of our home and that terrifies me. My boyfriend is unemployed and only receives barely enough money to live on. The last thing we need is for me to be unemployed as well.

It's so f****d up. I can't even complain or fret about it because people will just call me insensitive for thinking about myself instead of the elderly. No I don't want vulnerable people to die of this coronavirus but that doesn't stop me worrying about my life too. Most of us need money to live and if I become jobless and homeless the last thing I'm going to think of is "well at least the vulnerable are not ill with coronavirus".

Sorry maybe I was too harsh but I am in a massive anxious state right now and I don't know who to turn to to talk about my fears. I really cannot cope with the uncertainty of it all. I can't focus on anything, I can't be happy, I can't enjoy anything, all I can do is panic, panic, panic. And now people here are losing their jobs because of it, and it's only a matter of time before it happens here in the UK too.

At the moment but if this is going to go on for months on end then nothing will be running and everywhere will become a derelict wasteland.

We already had more traffic on the highways in NYC, and more people riding the trains, than yesterday.

All our buses are running.

Still below normal.

But I sense that the UK and Europe will get better before the US.

I think people would riot in the street if it went on for a few months, and then the government will turn the cities back on cause they would be more afraid of the people than the virus I am guessing.

Yes, I think the crime rate would end up going up because people are going to start going mad if this goes on for too long. It's not possible to force millions of people to not go out and live their lives. It will destroy us all, much more than a virus will.

???

I'm pretty sure they made it possible during times of war, so it ought to be possible now, too. Of course, there are likely to be some trouble makers, but if the government does a good job, they should be able to keep the majority in check.

People are more spoilt these days than during the war. Everybody's so used to walking into a store at almost any time and getting what they want. Everybody's so used to jumping into a car and going where they wish. People didn't freak out and raid the shelves back then. Neighbours were friendlier and looked out for each other. Times have changed. People these days can't cope.

New York is suffering badly. There were 1000 new cases since last night alone. People should get off those buses.

:(

This is a temporary blip. In a few months it will all be over and everything will try and return to normal. But right at this moment it will probably be important to put a plan together. Do you have enough food for a month. You need foods with protein. Tuna fish is good. You may need some multivitamins in case you do not get enough from your food. My perspective is the lack of items in the grocery stores is because of surge buying rather than being caused by a true shortage. The stores will fill up with food after the surge. Some items will be very difficult to be had such as PPE (personal protective equipment) for example N95 face mask. So I wouldn't expect to find these very easily until it is over. But even hand sanitizers should reappear shortly.

There is a global pandemic....

I wish my job would shut down and people would quit trying to proceed like everything is normal. I am hoping my State governor orders all non-essential physical businesses shut down for a time. So we can actually avoid being out in public as much like its recommended we do.

All the states here are going to end up like Italy at this rate.

Public transportation is the last play I would want to be without PPE
