I have panic attacks almost every day. No warning or nothing. I could be reading, watching YouTube, or playing games. It didn't / doesn't matter what I was doing. I would start to feel my throat tightening, my heart beating hard, and my body moving with each heart beat. I can hear the heart beat in my ears and feel the pulse of the blood traveling through my whole body. It just felt/feel like I was/am slowly dying. Luckily I would be at home most of the times, where I can medicate. Usually OTC sleeping meds (it helps to slow my thought). It eases the physical properties that comes along with the panic attack. If I don't take the sleeping meds I usually just drink water (there for legal reasons :) ) . It eases the physical and mental aspects. Slows my thoughts and I'm not gonna lie I like the bus, but I need healthier coping skllls. Any tips or comment.

In your other thread, you mentioned you receive behavioral therapy for your ADHD-related impulses.
Maybe it's connected - you learn to contain your impulses but actually your impulses carry some valid message and trying to supress them makes some of your needs unadressed.
That's what was happening to me when I was masking 24/7. Complete control over my own behavior came at a cost of mental health.

So, I would check some of your needs, long-term: how do you feel sensory-wise? Are you comfortable with your overall life situation? How much time do you spend on activities you genuinely enjoy? Do you feel you have allies you can trust? How well are you aware of your own emotions?
Maybe something in your life needs adressing and your body is sending you non-specific signals about it.

You said your throat closes up. Ooh. I get these problems. I have been trying to find the cause. I know what makes it worse. I get heartburn etc.

You should talk to a doctor about it. They might be caused by an imbalance in your matabolism, a thyroid condition, an irregular heartbeat, high or low blood pressure etc. None of those things are anything to worry about having. But if it turns out to be due some kind of condition like that, it could be brought under control.

I am okay with my life at the moment. I am fed ,roof over my head, and clothed. I mean it could be worse. I am not going to the doctors, nope. They terrify me on a deep level

How about activities you enjoy?
Some people I know need regular sport or contact with nature.
I have a problem with noise I identified only in my thirties.
Sensory and social situations can be tortures you don't even notice because life has always been like that.

Have you tried some mindfulness exercises? I know that stuff doesn't work for everyone, but I've had some successes with regulating my heart rate and breathing (which I don't realize is out of whack until my heart rate is sky rocketing) by using some of those techniques. There's tons out there, but oddly enough, citrus fruit works wonders with me. I'll grab and orange, for example, when I notice my heart rate is up, and hyper focus on it...how it feels, smells, looks. I might move it from one hand to the other and put sound into the mix. I roll the damn orange in my hand while counting to four, and breathe in for four seconds, then hold my breath for four seconds, exhale for four, hold for four, repeat. Like I said there's other stuff out there'll, but I like smell of oranges, plus I can dig my thumb nail into them and peel chunks off and for some reason, I really get a kick out of that.

You definitely should try to avoid becoming dependent upon water to deal with the symptoms. Although it mirrors some of the effects of anxiety medications it carries higher abuse potential because of that buzz you note. :nerdy:

I second this suggestion. It’s challenging to master, or even to remember to do it when feeling agitated, but controlling your breathing and, subsequently, your heart rate does really work.

Mess help at times but water works better. Much more convent to get no doctors need to prescribe it. You just gotta pay the water people(whatever there called).
