If you are thinking of suicide, please look at the website Now Means Now or another place to find coping tools, call the hotline (search the # on Google) and remember you will look back and be glad you bounced back! It doesn’t seem possible to go on, but it’s more than possible.

Life is so worth it!

That's highly presumptuous and debatable. I'm glad your life is but I also understand not everyone is in that boat.

The biggest reason to live is to help others I have found. I used to be depressed and billy no mates for a long time, but I just got a plane ticket to Belgium one day and thought I've had enough of that life, went backpacking around europe on my own in hostels with only a really crap smartphone. Had about £300 to my name and that was it. (You can make more cash out there surprisingly).

The amount of friends I made was insane, even just the life experience alone was enough. Got into some questionable house parties along the way too.

There are good people in this world who will love and care about you but you have to go out there and find them. No one deserves to be alone or in a miserable situation - but only you can change that so you need to at least try to. Anyone can do it autism/depression/etc or not, you just have to step out of the comfort zone you have become used to hiding away from the world in.

Stepping out. Yes.
When I hit my last burnout, it was a matter of perfect timing. I pushed myself through to the last day of work (I should not have done this but I only had a few days and the shifts were short) and I found out from the autiam team the very next day was their monthly "Open day" and I was determined. I was already on their list to be assessed but I was in a mess and I knew it, and I realized that if I did not attend I would have no chance in getting help.
Do you know what gave me hope? Two things. One was that I met people who understood what I was going through in regards to shutdowns and in all my life I have not met anyone else who understood.
The second thing was that because I realized they understood I opened out. I mean... Well. I told them the situation that I was in. How I had worked temporary low hours part time jobs and then having no income inbetween as I needed a long recovery inbetween jobs as I kept hitting burnout, and I was selling model trains to keep me going. Keep my car on the road etc. (Can't walk the 2 miles to a bus stop after burnout).
It was a case where I surprized myself that I opened up. The shock of finding people who knew kinda had me... Well. I just don't know how I did not cry. It was the shock which held my emotions back? I am still in awe about finding someone who understands.

Anyway. What I am trying to say is all within me usually kind of gives up when I go through a burnout. Yet, somehow I had a determination to get help and I did not know what I was going to say but I just knew that I needed to get there!

Stepping out is a brave thing to do. If we don't step out and say "Help" we don't get help. If we don't step out for an adventure, we don't have an adventure. If we don't step out and try, we don't try. If we don't step out....

The point of this topic is probably just to cheer people up a bit, not to state that life is always worth it and those that consider otherwise are simply wrong. The haven could certainly use a little bit of positivity.

Because when one is continually dealing with feeling suicidal posts like this are more like salt in the wound than help.

If someone is so low feeling as to contemplate ending their existence, might be time to consider professional help
Seriously . It becomes a cycle , if you do not address it ,, which it very much easier to say than to do . Ie, addressing the issue.

Thank you for your proactive post, and for suggesting relevant resources to our suicidal members.

Mental health is a critical topic, and I'm glad to see The Haven rules restructured to reflect our needs.
I think this is a much-overdue first step at allowing WP to flourish properly as a support site.

Fey and mods, is there a sticky or resource area for people in imminent distress or at risk of suicide?

I am very worried about some members on WP and I think some of us are cautious about responding or understanding how to help. I've been there myself and many people didn't know how to help me, either.

I would be more than willing to help assemble mental health and support resources or links for our vulnerable community and for all members, so they will know best how to respond when others cry for help.

There is not, but there should be. Directing a suicidal member to such a resource is definitely in the spirt of the rules (that is 'help' not 'advise' if that makes sense).

I know I am cautious myself. I think that would be an excellent idea. Open thread in the website subforum for members that feel qualified to contribute resources? You could lead it if you like, I see no reason why not. :)

There are national suicide hotlines. For most countries.

And there are local ones, too. State, provincial, city, county, regional, etc.

And there are resources not directly related to suicide—but to mental health in general.

Our objective is to help a person feeling alone.....know that he/she/they is not alone.
