The reason for this is that I'm buying, or at least trying to buy, an apartment of my own. I just checked my email and the seller had accepted my offer, so if the bank agrees to lend me the sum that I need, which is likely, I'm getting the place!

I'm nervous about all the official paperwork and handling things with the bank, as well as all the stuff that always needs to be handled when moving. The apartment is also in need of some light surface renovation; for examble, the paint was peeling off of the kitchen cabinets. There shouldn't be any big projects, but choosing the materials etc. is what stresses me. I'm also gonna need some new furniture, and while I of course have money set aside for that, the process of choosing the new ones stresses me. I can't afford to buy new ones often and that'd be wasteful anyway, so I want to get it right. Of course, the same applies to the apartment as a whole. I hope I won't regret buying this particular one, like if there's something even better that would've fit my budget a month or two from now. And naturally, I'm also worried about handling the loan. Something can always go wrong on that end, too.

But yeah, it's not official yet, so I probably shouldn't be getting too excited or nervous. I just wanted to share this and will probably be back here to rant about how the process is going later.

You should be excited!
Your own home...space...nest
That you can put your unique stamp on (with furniture, art, even scents  )
Is it in an area you like?

Yay! That is good news. For about 8 years I had a house. I had a good job so I had a mortgage and bought a house. Initially I was worried about furniture, but I had so many offers of furniture from my parents family friends... Someone would know someone who did not need this or that! Within no time I was having to refuse as I did not have space for more!
I do not know if the USA is the same, but here in Wales, furniture is not a problem. The only smaller issue is getting the furniture to ones house or flat/apartment. I was lucky as at the time I had a trailer and the cars I had had a tow hitch, as I used to tow caravans.
Actually, I want a caravan again. My old ones are way past it with rot. I want a little one as I have a little car. :)

Anyway. Exciting!

Just to add. The house I once owned was in a village which is a local village we used to pass through to get to other places. It was cheap as houses go and had a large garage and two block built sheds. I had only chosen this house as I had looked at others closer to the sea which is where I am used to, and this was half the price because it was about 12 to 15 miles inland. Initially I was concerned as I lived (I am here now) with my parents on a smallholding so we had land, no immediate neighbours and at least a field away from the nearest neighbour.
Now this house I bought was an end of terrace house in a large village. I thought the village was boringwith nothing there, but after I bought the house there, I realized how much the village had. Shops (Rare today foe villages to have one shop, but there were about ten shops ad two banks back then. Banks are now shut though). It even had a vet and some were fast food shops.
And I love scenery. Behind were fields. A short walk opposite and green areas. A short walk down and on the same side was a wild woodland part to mountain bike on! And a slightly longer walk up the hill (Less then half a mile) and one could sit in a rocky wild area with views of the wholw village and surrounding area below looking right down the valley with the surrounding hills.
It just had so much. I kept finding more. A play park. A principle cycle path in each direction just off the back lane to the house! Lots! Yet when I used to pass through the village, I only noticed a few shops. We very rarely ever stopped there before. Shops! Two shoe shops. A vet. A butchers who also sold other things. A chip shop. A newsagents. It even (Now demolished) had a public toilet!

I rarely lived there. I was a bit lonely. Also things kept happening with family and family friends. One went to hospital here. Another there. All needing me to help. My Dad having occasions where he would just go and we would have to find him (Due to his medication and the doctors not listening to us). My brother having ocxasions where he went off and we would have to look for him. My grandmother having problems and both my Dad, Grandmother and others like neighbours (Where parents lived) going in and out of hospital, and also dieing... Funerals! I went to 43 in just a few years when a virus had taken hold. This covid is very tame in comparisson to what took hold back then.
I then hit my first burnout, gave up the good job. Hardly had seen my house, as every time I went to put the key in the door I would have another phonecall as something serious had happened. Never known times like it!
So after having no income after I quit the job after burnout, I eventually sold the house for half its value (The prices had doubled a few weeks after I bought it and had gone up again) and I pid off the mortgage. I calculated how much I had spent on the house as I had to have several things done to it, and I had broke even to the penny! I could not believe that.
So I owned a house once. Hehe.

But what I am saying. Let furniture find you! Once word gets around, someone somewhere has something they don't want. They were going to throw it out but it was far too good. Some of the things were like new! I had lovely comfy setee and two chairs that were about 40 to 50 years old (Antiques) given to me and they were immaculate. Horsehair in the cushions. Before they started using foam. Nothing compared to these for comfort! They were in such good condition! Not a mark on them and hardly any wear.

Congratulations Fireblossom! How wonderful.

There is nothing so wonderful as a space of own’s own. I am so happy for you.

Yes, in my most preferred area, actually. The same one I live in now. Of course, this area's gotten a bit boring since I know it so well after living here for over 7 years and going to junior high here before that, but familiriaty with the area is also a good thing for someone as directionally challenged as me, so that cancels out the boredom. The area's safe, too, which could not necessarily be said if I got a place a walking distance from my work place (which would be nice but I wouldn't be able to afford one anyway.) I'll just continue using the bus.

Thanks!

...And thanks to everyone else, too. I tend to always forget the social rule of thanking people when they congratulate me.

Nice. Seeing it's your first apartment you own then it should make it smoother as there is no house at your end to sell. Once you get approval from the bank always listen to your lawyer/solicitor.

Congratulations. At this stage I would probably be making list of things to do so that I don't miss any.

Good news: I got the loan! We haven't settled on the day that we'll sign the papers yet, but it should be around the beginning of the next month. Of course, the apartment isn't officially mine yet, but now the seller can't back out anymore without getting in trouble since I have proof that the place has been promised to me.
