I just heard someone say on the TV news that the UK is going to be in lockdown until May. I don't think I can survive ANOTHER 5 MONTHS without seeing my family or being able to do anything, all my life is is work, bed, work, bed, no variation and already I'm losing my sanity. The government don't give a f**k about anybody, they're not "saving lives" they just want to control us and lock us up in our homes and take all our freedom away and watch us all descend into madness.
If they were that keen to save lives then they would have acted upon it this time last year but they didn't. We've already lost nearly 80,000 people even though we are in our third lockdown, so what good does lockdown do? Just increases the suicide rates, that's all.

f*****g wish I was dead. :o

Do not listen to the news. Turn it off. Get on with a hobby instead. Divert your mind onto better things.

Well it's what I hear from people on social media - and before you advise me to stop using social media, that is not an easy option because I need it to socialise.

Hang on, Joe.  You made it this far, you can go the distance.

I can't say I feel the same way. I find socializing tiresome. It's just the same old people and having nothing to really talk about. To just have a month of solitude and being allowed to do whatever I want is what's best in life.

May?! I seriously hope that's not confirmed. I hate our lockdowns too. I just want physical school back!

I don't think it will last that long given the vaccines being given out. It can feel like you are trapped and I know that the mental health aspect can be unbearable but I find distractions help, and trying to simulate your connections. I use Teleparty to watch films with friends and doing video calls can help too. It ca be horrible but we are helping to save lives and that helps me to think about as someone who almost had a relative die of COVID and has some of my closest family members being high risk. I doubt it will last that long, especially once we past these colder months :)

Imagine the sudden increase especially with this new variant which would give way for even more dangerous variants to mutate. Then a longer more draconian lockdown. Our government has failed us due to their incompetence. Had they acted sooner we wouldn't have to be so strict for so long :(. BUT on the bright side be we are saving lives. Maybe I feel stronger because I have had to worry about losing two people so far but hopefully this could protect your loved ones too. Positives :). Also I don't know if this helps you or comes across as condescending but sometimes it helps to think of others who have it worse to appreciate what you have. Many doctors are being traumatised by the amounts of deaths they are seeing. Hopefully when it gets warmer you can have more variation in your life and it help with how numbing this is. I find doing distractions helps and picking up new things to learn. I like to go out on walks at times/places where there are less people. The fresh air can really help sometimes. But I really empathise because this is draining and really negatively affecting people's mental health, especially if they already had problems before. I really hope you find a way to cope with things and that you can stay safe and in good health as well as those you love. Wishing you the best :)

If you're on twitter, mute the words "coronavirus" and "lockdown".

Also, I believe in you. It will be tough but you'll get through.

I find when I mute words it makes me less stressed and I can still use twitter.

That's a good idea. And when May comes around, and they decide they need to extend the lockdown for at least another 4 months, you'll have already established your new hobby.

I misread that as telepathy...

I agree. Almost all my high risk family members will be done by then.

My own fear is vaccines. And I'm scared I won't be brave enough for the jab if I know I'm not being a hero and saving family members cos they're already safe. That's the only reason I was prepared to do it.

Children and adolescents not going to school is actually really bad for them. Small children aren't going to learn social skills if they can't play and learn with their peers, and some older adolescents are going to end up getting complacent with the staying at home routine and not want to go out and get a job when they finish school, and they have missed out on exams. And children aren't getting the education properly like they would being at school all day, because school is the proper learning environment.
There's only so much you can do on the internet, it's not the be all and end all.

I just hope the vaccines work and can bring an end to this diabolical pandemic.

The vaccine can be a bit daunting but what makes me feel better is looking at the possible long term effects of COVID. My mum actually is supposed to get it soon as she is planning to be a volunteer working shifts in a vaccination centre. I have several relatives who are doctors too who will probably take it soon. Hopefully this is the beginning of positive change and they're starting to see indicators that the lockdown is working in the uk!
