So, I've worked at the same place for 16 1/2 years, it's a warehouse job. It's never been what I would call "great", I've had my battles and trials with people there over the years. I've dealt with bullying, gas lighting, and having rumors spread about me at a couple of points in time. I consider myself a good worker and have had a couple of managers tell me as well. With people, I find they either really like me or want to arrange to have me shot. Very little middle ground.

A few years ago, my place merged with another company. Since then things have gone to total crap, were non-union so were kind of at the mercy of the company. Benefits and perks have been take away from us, they have hired a lot of new management that is clueless, and we keep being told to do with less. They hired all these new people and we just don't have enough room for everyone. It's gotten crowded out on the floor.

I was off for 3 weeks for a minor surgery, while I was off I've realized how bad things have become. Truly, I've been struggling in that place for quite sometime but since returning, it's like the place just cripples me with anxiety. Lousy co-workers who get away with murder, not enough room to work, idiot managers and recently more pointless rules.

I want to quit badly, but that would be 16 years out the window. If I go someplace else I'd take a big pay cut and be starting all over again in terms of vacation time, plus a gap in health insurance. Plus I'm just chicken s--t, the idea of leaving terrifies me, sort of the "it's the devil I know".

The only reason I have not changed departments is because I like the hours 3pm-11pm, working 3rd shift is awful for me and there are a lot of egocentric bully NT's on 1st.

I've been looking for jobs, I saw one that seems like it could be a good fit but it's a 40 minute drive one way. My current job I live 6-7 minutes away. It just sucks. I'm not really qualified to do another job and the idea of going to night school while trying to do this job is impossible. I come home and just collapse somedays. :(

I had that situation in college where everyone (both students and faculty) were split on loving me or hating me and very little in between.

Long commute sucks. Keep looking or move closer to another cluster of jobs. Only take the job with the long commute if you know you will be able to move closer once you're comfortable with the new job and want to stay there.

Thanks and I've sort of thought the same thing, if I would take the job, I'd have to move closer.
