It does annoy me when there are some people out there telling other people who are having hard time at the moment to ''grow up'' and ''stop being so frightened and get on with your life''. There was a woman in her 60s who had been shielding last year and was too scared to even go out the house anymore except to the doctors or hospital for pre-existing problems she had. But one comment she received online said ''What is the point of surviving a virus if you spend the rest of your life locked away in your attic? You could come out after the virus is gone and get hit by a bus and then you've wasted all that time whimpering in fear for nothing. Just go out and enjoy your life and if you catch COVID at least you lived happily for those months. And remember - a 104 year old and a 1 day old baby survived it.'' I just think it was rather narrow-minded and I sympathise with the lady's state of mind because I seem to almost feel that way. I just can't get myself out there to enjoy shopping in the shops I like, or sit in a restaurant somewhere, or go to the barbers knowing there is a virus circulating out there and I don't know which random person out there has got it, I tried doing those things a while ago and I found it uncomfortable and un-enjoyable than it used to be because I was always looking over my shoulder if anyone was close to me and walking fast to get away from people coming close to me.

I hope you get the vaccine soon.

The vaccine works. Very few people get severe side effects from it.

OK, I do agree with this. We can't hide away forever, especially now that we have vaccines in the UK and some other countries.

BUT I do understand that not everyone feels that way and I don't think it's very kind or helpful to tell those people to grow up. If someone wants to shield still then I respect that and I will only phone them up to chat, not go to their house. But I am looking forward to the shops reopening, as a person who doesn't do online shopping and hates Amazon. As long as I wear my face mask and stay distanced from other people (which the shops will make sure people will be doing) then I should be fine. Plus I NEED my hair cut, and that is one thing you can't do on this fantastic internet.

Ahh yes, an excellent example of the classic old "Everyone who doesn't live their life my way is a third-class waste of humanity" level of arrogance.

I wonder how many decades the person who made that comment has lived with the identical pre-existing problems at identical levels severity and had the identical prior experiences with them ...

And the person of infinite compassion and empathy who made the comment figures that comparing a 104 year old and a 1 year old to a 60 year old with pre-existing conditions is of direct relevance how?

Oh, the commenter wants to play an age and numbers game???
Well ... https://www.aarp.org/health/conditions- ... dults.html
Quote:
95 percent of COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. have occurred among people who were 50 or older. This even though the majority of coronavirus cases have been reported in people under age 50.
The unnerving numbers don't end there. About 8 in 10 deaths have been among people 65 and older, according to the latest demographic data available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Yeah, I am no fan at all of that commenter's comment.

I have pre existing conditions which make me high risk -- and I do NOT have that lady's conditions and I have not lived her life, so I have no right to judge her.
