This week PBS has been airing a three part series on Ernest Hemingway. It's a pretty fascinating story, he was a complex and talented man, but what a bastard! He hit his wives and was verbally abusive, he turned on other writers who had helped him get established, and he was nutty as a fruitcake by the end of his life, which, most of you may know, ended in suicide, as had his father's. He had three strikes against him: significant head trauma history, alcohol abuse over an extended period, and a family history of mental illness.
Only reason I bring this up in here is so many of us have relatives who are just as toxic. You have to get over how charismatic and celebrated the relative is and just protect yourself.
If you missed this series, I believe it's also streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
