I've always been quite asocial. That's inborn, but has also been affected by things like severe social anxiety/periodic failed attempts at F2F socialising with others. The social hierarchy in the autistic world is little different than that of the NT world. There are those that are very popular, and those, like myself, who are social rejects.
I thought I'd fit in better ,at least online, with other autistic people. That's not the case.

Perhaps it's par for the course with ASD + schizophrenia.

I don’t see any evidence that people reject you here, to be honest.

I don't see it either. You're smart, articulate, thoughtful...anyone would be lucky to count you as a friend.

Perhaps 'rejected' is too strong re this forum. I find it immensely difficult to truly fit in, be it here or any other forum. It's like I can open the first door, but then there's another door leading to the inner sanctum that I'm completely unable to open.

I've always been on the "fringes." I have no access to the "inner sanctum." I accepted this a long time ago.

Reality bit me in various places----so I had to accommodate reality.

I feel the same way, firemonkey. I don't have the skills to make a deeper connection with people.

I don't know about others here, but for me there's a rather large gap between my verbal ability and my social communication skills.

People sometimes don't even think I'm all that bright......and they think there's a screw loose somewhere.

Thanks, Steve.

When I knew that I'd be a social reject in my 20s, I just started to turn inward, and enjoy reading books and eating copious amounts of pasta :)

I figure----as long as you don't deliberately hurt somebody---that you're okay even if you're a little cuckoo :)

Thanks all of you. Going through a below par period at present. I don't think 'Autistic Twitter ' has helped. It seems to be packed with people with the worst level of sensory symptoms etc imaginable, while still doing mind bogglingly wonderful things. Plus it's jam packed with highly domineering and confrontational types.

I'd stay away from social media---unless you can have a bit of a thick skin, and take what many people say with a grain of salt. Most of the time, it's a bunch of crap. It's a bunch of peacocks trying to show their plumage.

I believe social media is a way for people to vent and to try to play around with folks. Because these people are not required to say what they say in an actual person's face.

Many times, a person who rants at you is not actually ranting at YOU. They don't see the individual in you. All they see is someone to rant at. They don't care if it's a person or some other sort of animal on the other side of the keyboard.
