I've had GERD for years and the symptoms flare up when I'm stressed which is fun. This most recent flare up has made it hard to breathe which is making that stress worse as it feels like being stuck at the point just before a panic attack. I panicked it was covid before I realised the correlation and also tested negative (which was horrible as my gerd made my throat very sensitive and my TMJ made my nose super sensitive so it really hurt).

Weight loss is supposed to help so I'm working on eating less, eating only when I'm hungry which is like 4 times a day and small portions with a lot of water and breaks so I can stop before I'm so full I feel sick. I',m gonna try to sleep upright but this has been really messing with my sleep. I can't do basic things without feeling dizzy. Wearing my mask is.... interesting.

I'm in pain all the time anyway but this is becoming so hard to deal with. The stabbing pain from my TMJ dysfunction is not helping. Sometimes it feels like someone has stuck two glass shards in my ears and I just want to curl up and cry. I miss my antiacid. It really helped but apparently there was a wory about it causing cancer and I'm allergic to omeprazol :(

I've had LPR since I was a kid, and this article was a life-changer for me: https://chriskresser.com/how-to-cure-ge ... edication/

I'm not a doctor though, and you might want to bring it up with yours. But some of the more simple stuff, like cutting down on carbs, really does wonders for me.

Being constantly in pain is miserable and debilitating. Feeling like you can’t breathe is a sure route to a panic attack, at least for me.

In regards to the herd, which I also have, there are more medications than otc antacids and omeprazole. Those are the baby steps. You could ask your doctor about what other meds you can try.

Dexlansoprazole (Dexilant)
Esomeprazole (Nexium)
Lansoprazole (Prevacid)
Omeprazole (Prilosec, Zegerid)
Pantoprazole (Protonix)
Rabeprazole (Aciphex)

I am currently taking Dexilant and it works well for me. But I had to try the cheaper ones first for insurance reasons.

The diet restrictions are good, and you don’t have to follow them forever - just long enough to let your body heal. When I have a flare due to forgetting to take my pills, or stress or whatever, I eat only soft white rice with butter and salt, and only in small portions.

This is just what works for me and your doctor can be your best resource for what is best for you.

I hope you feel better.
