I just got banned from a dating site for no reason....

no explanation, nothing....

just profile gone!

anyone had the same?

There was a reason, you just don't know what it is.

I've been banned on some apps before. And it's only in hindsight that I believe the reason was because of some algorithm that's supposed to promote universal acceptance... so if you use any sort of text language to indicate that you have a particular type you're attracted to, if the algorithm picks it up, you get banned for discriminating against people you're not attracted to. Now tons of profiles are blank and don't say anything about types or ages or body types or hair colour preferences etc at all.

I'm sorry you got banned for no reason. The least they could have done was offer you an explanation. But it isn't fair that you just got banned without doing anything. At least you're always welcome here.

From my own personal experience, I got dumped by my own lover for also no reason too.

She was certainly not the type who would cheat, but she gave me explanation as to why she did so.

You're giving me an idea for the newest hook-up app.

No user details are collected, no user preferences are allowed, all it does is tell you when there's someone in the mood for something now and lets you exchange details.

A female being banned from a dating site, I would think, would be a rare occurence.

So it might be due to some accidental glitch in the system. Maybe.

I wouldn't have thought they would ban you for no reason but what do I know.

I've only ever been banned from places for very good reasons and after a succession of warnings.

Is there any way you could contact the admin of the site and ask for an explanation.

Possibly not, they're so automated. Might have to read the fine print of the terms of service to figure it out.

More sites/apps than I've used may be promoting universal body acceptance stuff in the same way. So, if you write in your profile that you're into tall dark and handsome, not particularly attracted to overweight people or body/facial hair - boom, some algorithm automatically bans you for discriminating against people that don't fit whatever profile you say you prefer. It could be for writing phrases like that in a profile.

So in other words it's shame on the individual for having individual choices.

Kind of, yes.

But I also kind of get their intentions with it, too.

Because some people write things like "white only, no black, no brown, no asian, no femme, no fat" etc etc - maybe not all in one profile, but people write it. So the idea is to combat racism and fat phobia etc. (This is on Grindr, the most popular gay hookup/dating app)

BUT, that doesn't change that some people are only attracted to asians with black hair and no body hair that are slim and shorter than them - or whatever someone's specific type is; just using a random example.

BUT, the more we learn about attraction and media and marketing and tv/hollywood etc, the more we realize that the images shown to us while growing up are the types of people we're taught are attractive and thus are attracted to.. so even though you're genuinely turned on by a particular type, it's learned behaviour and excludes others.

I have a type range that I tend to stick with - but it's a range and has become broader over time - so rather than get into debates or arguments or be rude to anyone I just don't specify much of anything at all on a profile anymore and then just chat with people I'm possibly interested in and I don't reply to others that I'm not interested in at all. Yes, I still "discriminate," because I'm simply not wired to be "equally attracted to everyone because everyone is beautiful," and all that, but I make sure not to have any potentially offensive words on my profile so it doesn't ruffle any feathers or come across as rude - even about age.

Maybe with these sorts of changes in dating apps and algorithms, future generations of online daters will be much more on an equal level and there will be a lot more intermixing of appearances and body types than ever before ?? Or maybe the climate crisis will kill so many people that people will connect and procreate with anyone just to perpetuate the species..
