What should have I done?

I assume we're talking about the locked, then deleted thread. Looked like you did everything right to me. Easy to doubt yourself after dealing with head games.

If this is the thread we're talking about, then the other party has been going on a rampage of impression management. Trying hard to give advice where they have failed, without admitting fault or failure. Hopefully that reminds you of the truth in your own actions.

You done nothing wrong. It was sadly a clear attempt to humiliate you publicly for setting boundaries.

Obviously I don't know her like you do, but in my own situations which seem similar...I'm not sure you'd ever get a why. To cause pain? Humiliation? To gain power? Self-image? I relate to your need, but you may torture yourself by seeking an answer. If this were so calmly discussed, the incident probably wouldn't have happened in the first place. That's often what I remind myself during breakups where I still long for something.

The way you're mentioned in said person's signature seems very dismissive to me, considering what happened. I imagine that is the other person's idea of an answer, unfortunately. And you probably know what you need to, even if the other person won't give that consolation.

It's a literal reference to an elf suit I wore during the holidays in a video game the two of us had been playing. Anywhere from a suggestive sweater ornament to my mischievous stunts complete that description.
