I don't like wearing glasses. I don't like things perched on my nose. I wish my eyes weren't astigmatized. But the optician said I should wear glasses all the time!

I've asked for contact lenses because I just get self-conscious in glasses. I know people say glasses are trendy and all that these days but I don't know any people under the age of 45 that wear glasses, and I know glasses make me look plain because of my lazy hairstyle. Glasses just don't suit me.

I never thought I needed to wear glasses all the time. I thought that was only for people who bump into things or can't see when crossing the street. Not people like me who just need glasses to see words from a certain distance. I hate my eyes. No-one else in my family needed/needs glasses under the age of 45.

I've had glasses from the age of 18, but I don't wear them all the time. Mainly for watching TV and for driving (which I don't do any more). Tried contact lenses in my early 20s, but had problems with them.

I've been wearing glasses since I was about 25. Even children who need them wear glasses. I could maybe wear contacts but I prefer the style of glasses. They also make others perceive you as smarter, as well as pay better attention to you when you speak because they make them focus on your face - it's good for communication and sales. I don't Have To wear them, though. My eyesight is good enough to pass the drivers licence requirement so I can ride my motorcycle without them. I can see better to read street signs at night with them, though, and have the blue filter to protect my eyes from strain caused by blue screen light from computers.

I have a friend who he and his brother WISH they needed glasses just so they could wear them because they like the look. Everyone wants what they can't have.

As for bumping into things or not being able to see when you cross the street.. those people are likely considered legally blind, not just needing glasses.

Anyways, keep shopping until you find frames that really suit your face and you like! There are tons of options. For something you have to wear all the time, IMO, its worth shopping around and maybe paying a little more for ones that truly look Good vs. just do the job. Well, depending on your budget and use for them - cheap glasses have their purpose, too.

It seems that the majority of autistic people and people with special needs seem to require glasses as children, teens and younger adults. I don't want to fit that stereotype.

Neither my mum or my dad or any of my grandparents have astigmatism so I don't know where I got it from. Just my luck. None of my cousins need glasses. Why me all the time?

I've only had to start wearing glasses in the last few years. Actually since having to store at a computer screen all day at work. I also have astigmatism but I only have to wear them at night to watch telly.

If you can see OK without them when you're out and about then don't wear them.

I've been wearing glasses since I was 8. I am 70. I need them to see everything and would be lost without them. I got used to them. Give it time. They are a very helpful tool.

I don't but the optician said I could go blind in the future if I don't wear glasses all the time now. I don't want that.

I guess I do, but I don't.

I only wear them when safety is an issue, like say spotting snakes or doing work as they function as safety glasses just fine. Astigmatism with its nearsightedness (short-sighted in more than one way here, lol).

I am one of "those" who think glasses can make women attractive and sexy.
I am one among many. 8)

You'll probably get used to them with time; I know I did. Been wearing them since I was 15, first only in class in order to properly see the board at the front of the class and to watch shows with subtitles at home, but have been wearing them all the time since I was 20. Wearing glasses is annoying when it rains, but other than that, they aren't a hindrance once one gets used to them. Give it a try at least... plus, some are kinda pretty, so pick out something that is your style. 8)

This doctor that prescribed your glasses seems a bit off. Unless you have some form of progressive eye disease then you will be fine not wearing glasses. You won’t go blind.
Astigmatism is not progressive.
I have astigmatism with a bit of nearsightedness. I was diagnosed at the age of 9. The doctor prescribed glasses. I almost never wore my glasses until I was in my fifties and my distance vision (nearsightedness) got just a tiny bit worse so that the vision correction helped with driving. I only wear my glasses to drive and walk my dog. My vision has not gotten any worse in the last 10 years since. I have better short range vision than most people my age- it seems my nearsightedness helps with short range vision as I age.
My astigmatism has never changed.
I like very lightweight glasses so I buy cheap ones online. My daughter has perfect vision but also buys glasses(with non medical lenses) at the same online place just for fun. She loves dressing up and changing her look.

Sounds similar to me. My eyes haven't changed either since I got my first pair and I very rarely where them. I never take them outside with me and I'm sat watching telly now and I don't need them. The only time is when it does start to get a bit darker I'll have to put them on to watch TV. I don't need them for reading or looking at my phone either.

I think the astigmatism makes my eyes see double when I get tired so my glasses just help with that.

Another reason why I don't want to wear glasses is because they'll fog up when I have a mask on, and I still like to wear my mask.

When I'm like in my 50s I will wear glasses because nearly everyone I know over the age of 50 need glasses. But I don't know many people at all under the age of about 45 who wear glasses. Oh, I think one of my cousins wear glasses and she's NT.

I think I'm just nervous of glasses giving off the wrong vibes with me when out in public, like I might look more Aspie or something (not saying glasses make everyone look different but I worry that they might do me). I don't really want to look like a nerd because I am most certainly NOT a nerd.

You don't see many young, pretty celebrities on TV wearing glasses. Maybe male celebrities more but not many females under the age of 50.

Maybe I misheard the optician about becoming blind, but she said something like if I don't wear glasses now my eyes won't be able to respond to glasses later on in life. Does that mean going blind?
