This country, it just gets worse and worse. Apparently they are going to be taxing women that don't have children. Is this for real? Or is this a f*****g joke? It's sexist, I mean why not tax childless men as well? I'm insulted, and I'm not usually the woke kind but this has really ticked me off. I think this country is way overpopulated, yet they seem to think the population here is decreasing and there won't be many people in the future to do jobs. BS!! !! Right now work is hard to find, and many businesses are shutting down and computers are replacing jobs anyway. There is not ever going to be a shortage of people in the UK!

I feel like I'm being punished for being sensible and not bringing a child into this cruel world. With things going up in price and WW3 being under threat, who wants to bring a child into this world? I'm so angry. Will this really go ahead?

I don't think I like living in a country ran by rich thickheads that make the most stupidest of decisions and think it's such a genius idea. I hope women stand up to this and fight against it. :x

It's not a joke. There are a lot of questions with this though.

Read this article if you get a few minutes.

I had noticed that if I go for a walk I might see only single women walking around, maybe a few couples but hardly any children at all.

I thought the government wanted us to stop having children cos people like Al Gore keep predicting imminent doom because of human activity. So they are just not giving us the truth if now they are trying to increase the birth rate.

It seems like this is just the suggestion of an academic and not actually going to be a law, and it seems to be a tax on everyone..not just women.

Yes it won't get any further than a suggestion.

Well how come they're building new schools around here yet a lot of children still aren't guaranteed to get into their local school because there's no room? When I was a kid each class had about 25-28 children. Nowadays every parent I have spoken to say that each class has like over 30 children even when extending the schools.

There are s**t loads of people and kids everywhere.

Why don't they just tax people that don't own cars as well?

I don't want to hear excuses or justifications, it's the dumbest idea ever been made in the history of Britain and if there's a protest made against this I will certainly join. It's insulting to gay couples and people that are unable to have children. I've never known anything so ridiculous in all my life.

If this goes ahead then I'll just commit suicide because I refuse to live in a world where I feel ashamed or guilty (and having to pay EXTRA) for not having children.

I know what it really is. They're just making us childless women pay for women that do have children. That's what this is all about. It's wrong and offensive.

That article sounds more like a rant than factual. I haven't actually seen any proof articles of this happening, and from what I have read when researching it, loads of people are as enraged as I am about it.

I don't see how taxing will make any difference anyway.

It's a free country, people should have the right to choose, and some people (those that cannot have children) can't even choose but will be taxed for it.

Whoever came up with this suggestion needs his or her head tested or failing that needs to be publicly named and shamed. I'm sorry but I see no positivity or sense in this at all.

It's really made me feel anxious, depressed and angry, all in one. This is brilliant for my mental health.
If I was 82 I'd be having a heart attack now from the shock and disgust of this.

If you was 82 I think you would be exempt from this anyway.

I know that, but I'd still be fuming for those that can't have children.

But at my age and with all the price inflation I do not want to have to pay tax for not having children. I've never known to pay tax for something you DON'T do/have. It's a bit like taxing people who don't have a car. It's inhumane and discrimination. It's disgusting. And it's ridiculous.

Quote:
She knows they won't.

I don't know, I just hope.

And it'd probably be wrong, and selfish, of me to just have a baby so that I don't have to pay the childless tax, right? Because if they do bring this new thing out, that's what people are going to be doing. There'll be a lot of children being brought up in bad relationships. And if you say that it's more expensive to have children than not, then what difference would taxing people without children make then?
It's just absurd and unrealistic.

It just frightens me how the geniuses that invent these bright ideas just don't think these things through first.

In the US, childless people are already taxed more than people with children because people with children are allowed a deduction against income for each child.

In the event the people with children are married, they have a lower tax rate than single people (women or men), regardless of whether they have children or no, though childless couples have the same tax rate as married couples.

Single people without children (or a single person with a child who does not have the legal right to use the deduction vis a vis the other parent) get the sh-t end of the stick under US tax law.

I was just about to say this. Its similar in the UK. If you don't have children you are already paying more.

So it looks like you could be paying even more on top Joe. I mean you're in a good position to be able to pay more with not having anything else to spend your hard earned money on.

It's only the ramblings of one individual with zero political power. Secondly any laws put into place won't have to be paid due to being clear discrimination, especially if a disability makes having kids much more challenging or impossible.

The government will end up paying a tax rebate like no other if they dare set up such a tax scheme.
