I guess not, because if we were I'd be wondering why dying didn't feel scary or horrible at all.

Can they just hurry up and kill us already? Haven't we suffered enough???
I guess that's the point. You can't suffer if you're dead. So they're going to see just how much we can live through until we finally die. Or go completely insane.
