Had a full blown autistic meltdown at work for the first time.... I'm so scared I'm going to lose my job over it.

I went into the office to have the meltdown, but I couldn't stop crying and tearing up for like..... hours afterwards. And I couldn't stay in the office for hours....

I've been scolded for crying in front of customers before (due to sensory overload), so I'm scared that management will decide I'm unfit for the role they gave me and demote me

Would it really be a demotion if they shift you into a more suitable job & environment that you're happier and less stressed doing ?

No sense in staying in a job for a particular title or status if you and it are not a good match.

If I were dealing with people and it drove my nuts and my employer gave me a job where I didn't have to deal with people that'd be a promotion. Same if I was in a role with sights and sounds that drove me nuts and they re-assigned me to something in an environment that didn't make my senses go haywire.

Change doesn't necessarily mean going backwards or being demoted to something lower or lesser - especially if it's a good change. Also, if your bosses are willing to do that vs. fire you, they're pretty good bosses.

Well that's one way to look at it.
